God I wish people would READ their questions aftery they type them.

You want to build 1/4 of a rope bridge that is a mile long (ie: 1/4 of a 4 mile bridge) or do you want to build a rope bridge that is about 1400 feet long?

Over that distance, it will be a cable bridge, not rope... as in, wire cable.

It's not clear what you mean by "BEST"... Safest? Cheapest? Easiest?

The simplest way will be to rig "messenger" lines, from one end to the other, then use them to haul over heavier lines, using them in turn to haul in your cables.
You will need some HUGE winches, or a lot of very strong friends, to tension the cables over that distance, and some very good engineers to tell you whether it will break or not...
