The small round ones are portholes, but I think the larger ones such as the ones on cruise ships are just called windows.

That depends on where on the boat the window is. The small round ones in the hull are portholes. The ones in the ceiling are sky lights. The large widows in cruise ships are bay view windows. To find out all the boat's window names just look up a window manufacturer's catalog and see you'll be amazed at the diversity.

The round ones below the main deck are port holes. The not round ones are called port lights. The windows around the bridge the captain looks out are called windows.

Windows on a ship are called portholes. I don't think that who ever named them was thinking clearly. Port being the left side, there are windows or portholes on the starboard or right side as well.

On the left side they are port holes. So it must be that on the right side they would be starboard holes.
