I am 16 years old and I know it is very unlikely that I will get my license within a few years or so (college, not enough money, etc). I only started expressing an interest in aviation a few months ago. I don't know why, but there's something about it that's so compelling.

Now, I do know that 16-year-olds can get a private pilot license/certificate. However, I would like to know what kinds of planes 16- or 17-year-olds typically fly. I would really appreciate pictures :)

Also, what entails flying a private plane? Is it hard to control, or scary? Is it really unique? Anything I should expect?

The cockpit is powered by energy made from the engines right? So why doesn't the cockpit have like car batteries or something in case of emergency and the engines shut down. I saw an episode of mayday where all the fuel leaked out, the engines shut off, and like 95% of the cockpit instruments were rendered useless. All they had was that little propeller thing that's deployed to make a little power. What's that thing called by the way?

What does it mean when a airplane pilot is on approach and indicates to the air traffic controller its Air line and flight number and says "Heavy" , is it because of the type of aircraft? quantity of passengers? total load?

I would say the F-4 Phantom would kick the FA-18's butt, although it has no guns, but bigger missles and more of em. What do you think?
