I do too, it was such a lovely craft, the pride of aircraft
engineering, very sad to see it grounded due to economic
reasons. Should have replaced air force one. Much more
prestigious I would think.

The problem with the world today. Concorde would belong here today if it wasnt for money calculations and economics. We should embrace the passion we have for some machines rather than doing the calculations on what they cost. I dont think anybody sat for example on shadowmosss road (Manchester, EGCC) could look up at concorde landing on 24R without a sense of pride and looking up I bet not one person would wonder how much running costs/loss/gain were. Concorde was never built to be economical, it was built to be a thing to be proud of. A supersonic airliner! Who gave a damn about cost? That wasn't what was important back when it was built. In the future when we look back on why advances on technology such as that were halted, they are gonna laugh when we say coz it cost too much!

can anyone look at this picture and tell themselves they gave a stuff about how much it cost to run?

I would love to see her slice through the air again, she's a beautiful ship. The problems with doing that are her fuel consumption, the skill required to actually fly her, the costs of maintenance and insurance on such an aircraft. She's beautiful, but the airlines, insurance companies and oil companies don't make profits for their investors by investing in things of beauty.

Given the aging systems and engines, and what would be required to bring just one of them up to 21st century spec's for the purpose of being able to get insurance on it, and you're going to need to produce a will that shows you're the heir to Howard Hughes. Even that might not do it.

A group of guys right now are still trying to get a Convair 880 airworthy again. They've been trying for years with little to no success.

It would be a wonderful thing to see a Concorde fly again, but I suspect that the cost of upgrades, maintenance, insurance, fuel, training and getting everything past the FAA or CAA is simply insurmountable. I shudder to think what the cost of a ticket on the thing would be, high enough likely that I'd never be able to fly on her.

It's a beautiful dream, one I'd love to see, but I just don't see it happening.

Although she was a beauty to see, and a I am sure enough to fly. The Concorde was buillt well ahead of its time. It cost too much to run where the company (gov't) never really saw a profit in its 30+ years. It's ashame to see it go, however a futuristic replacement that didn't have the sonic boom as it crossed through the sound barrier would a superior force in the market

yeah the worst thing is that those planes were payed for with tax payers money in a massive government spending spree
then when British airways got privatised they inherited these beautiful jets free of charge

they belong to the British public and Richard Branson actually put a decent bid together for them all after they were grounded

British airways refused point blank , but they had no justification.

i dint think bran son actually be lived that they would let them go especially to virgin , but he wanted to cause some publicity about them belonging to the public

i think it stinks anyway
bring back Concorde still the fastest passenger plane to date and built by the British and french

we should be proud of it

do you believe there isn't enough people who need to get from new york to London quickly
(2 hours, 52 minutes and 59 seconds between New York and London)
to some people 15,000 is nothing and if they are willing to pay it why not take some of it off them to help filter into the economy, some people earn 15,000 in 1 hour so that plane could help them ,

TIME IS MONEY especially in London new york and Tokyo

if Branson was serious he could even commission someone to make some more updated planes, after all the plans still belong to the citizens of Britain and France

The Concorde was an inefficient machine that used money to solve its problems. It was poorly engineered, used expensive construction techniques where they were not needed, and was not designed with common sense, therefore it wore out quickly, and cost a fortune to repair.
The Concorde should not be brought back, because aircraft like the B-1 have proven that supersonic long distance flight can be accomplished at a fraction of the cost, and maintenance.
The engines on the b-1 have a specific fuel consumption of 0.40, compared to the concord's 1.20, which means that the b-1 is 3 times as fuel efficient.

Concorde was a great machine but increasingly more expensive to run. It was also difficult to fly and so crews had to be very highly trained. The economics sealed Concorde's fate.

Unfortunately, it's too expensive to operate and people just won't pay that necessary price in enough numbers for it to be viable. Increasing fuel costs along with the crash in France a few years ago spelled it's death.

Honestly now, are YOU prepared to pay around $15,000 for a one-way ticket from New York to London when you can get an advance purchase round-trip ticket on a regular airliner for under $1,000?

$30,000 R/T vs $1,000 R/T

Heck, a first-class ticket on an regular airliner would cost less than half of a ticket on the Concorde.

although it is a great shame to see concorde grounded, one can only believe it was done for saftey reasons, it has an imecable flying record but all the craft are now getting old

what would be better to see is new craft built with new ideas that can travel faster and smoother and hopefully have longe shelf life

no doubt about it they should defiantly bring back concord if B A wont fly it let Richard Branson I am 100% certain he will make a go of it lets face it one crash that was not even a fault in the aircraft is a pretty good record we all know it was caused by debris on the runway just because the Americans couldn't build one as good they had to stop it B A said it was losing money so why did Richard Branson want to buy it then i am sure he would not buy a loser bring back concord right now i say
