I had a serious situation last year which prevented me from paying my taxes entirely and now my husband has been out of work for medical reasons and we can't keep up with paying the back tax. Are any of these firms that specialize in helping taxpayers by dealing with the the IRS real or are they scams? We don't know where to turn. The IRS is threatening to levy my income -our only source of income which means we can't pay mortage, car payments, electric, etc. Anyone?

I am a full time college student and this past year I was in school full time and made no income. I did however make some donations in the form of goods to some charities. Can I file and deduct these items even though I made no income?

I have left public accounting and will be doing a few individual tax returns this year on my own. Have one question though. On the 1040 it ask for the EIN of the paid preparer. Well I don't have one, does answering the question as being self-employed alleviate having to answer that question. I prefer not to get one and not use my SS (which is why I got a PTIN). Any thoughts

I have currently made 7,600 this year, and therefore do not need to file for taxes. I am being offered an extension at my work to make an additional 3k. But then I will pass the $8,450 threshold and have to pay taxes. Should I work and make the additional 3k, or will I lose more to taxes??

with my SS# on it of course - as one would mail a check in April...

will it still credit to my account?
I think I owe quite a bit, in back taxes -

I would rather start paying and then perhaps get an eventual refund, rather than try to save up enough to pay a lump sum (that'll never happen). I trust the tax system to keep good accounting, but if that's not the way the system works, I don't want to lose money.

Are Americans overtaxed? Figure it out, how many hours a day do you work just to pay taxes? Add in all other non-income taxes. Now how many hours a day do Americans work just to pay taxes? How much is too much? What can be done? Are you doing it?

Okay, my husband, myself and my son are on welfare. He and I are on it until SSI accepts our case.

I read somewhere last year that some people can get money back for "unearned" income, what is that?

I am in the state of Ohio.

Thank you!

I'm worried that I might owe on my 2007 taxes.....what do you think? I estimate that my gross income is $48,000 and that I will have paid in a total of $13,135.45 not including health insurance leaves me with a take home amount of $34864.55 or with health insurance deducted than my true take home is $33,105.80
I am single and have no children or even a mortgage. All year on my checks I claimed 0 and have estimated that in just taxes without health insurance they have taken just slightly over 27.5% of my check. With health insurance included they have taken just over 30.5%. The reason I list with and without health insurance is because I'm not sure what information one would need. So please help me if you know so i'll have a heads up. Thank you

My son works for temporary service and earns about 300 a week. He claims EXEMPT from withholding yet they withhold taxes and add EIC payments in the same amount. Anyone know why this may be?
They will not discuss it with me and just tell my son that's what they have to do.

My employer offers raffle tickets for hitting my daily conversion rates and on the end of the month the tickets are drawn for items ranging from $15 gift cards to $700 dollar TVs. On recieving your next paycheck if you won an item the tax will be automaticly deducted from your check. Now as it is my understanding incentives from employers are 100% tax deductable. So if they dont have to pay they taxes why should I? Can they, should they and if they arent who do I contact about this?

My wife works from home. She has about $4000 dollars in office expenses this year. We are filing a joint return Married. Do I base the 2% AGI limit on her salary or our combined household salary. Example if we made $90k this year. $90K x 2% = $1800. $4000 - $1800 = $2200 in deductions. Her alone would be $37k x 2% = $740. $4000 -$ 740 = $3260 deduction! Much Better Which is it? Does anyone know of Tax Software that does this?
