Are Americans overtaxed? Figure it out, how many hours a day do you work just to pay taxes? Add in all other non-income taxes. Now how many hours a day do Americans work just to pay taxes? How much is too much? What can be done? Are you doing it?

Our per-capita tax burden is one of the lowest in the industrialized world. If you think it's bad here, go to Europe. Gasoline taxes alone are more than $3.00 a gallon and pump prices are around $7.00 per gallon. Income taxes are 10% to 40% higher and most countries have sales taxes of around 20%.

Most Americans have no clue how well off they are compared to the rest of the world.

You should also ask, are the rich overtaxed? The top 1% pay 40% of the country's taxes. Yeesh!

Sales taxes tend to be regressive, so the poor may be overtaxed. I say may because the poor also use more social services and tend to qualify for more tax breaks (E I C for example).

At about a third of the gross national product, the USA has the lowest total tax burden of any western industrialized country. It is kind of hard to beat that.

No we are not. Citizens in several European countries pay far more than us but their governments provides a lot more than the US Government.
