I have recently been working aprx 30 hrs per wk under a 1099. I currently have no other income but my wife does work under W2. I'm looking for a clear explination of what 1099 means come TAX time. What percentage should I be setting aside to pay for the taxes? I've reviewed the IRS site but not able to make clear sense of it all. Any links or reponses greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have been shown in the past the papers needed to request the removal of my citizenship of the US...which removes my so called tax liabilities as well..

But I have also heard about an account held by the government in my name called a STRAW MAN ACCOUNT? Supposedly the account is my name and number but all in caps...

If ANYONE has REAL!!!! information about this please speak up!!!!!!

To dissolve LLC in Califonia before 2008, I know that I should file Certificate of Cancellation (LLC-4/7) and Certificate of Dissolution (LLC-3). The instructions mention looking at FTB Publication 1038 which mentions the following:
"To dissolve, surrender, or cancel your entity you must do
both of the following:
1. File your final return with the FTB.
2. File the appropriate dissolution, surrender, or
cancellation documents with the SOS within 12
months of the filing date of your final tax return."

Question: Do I need to file the final tax return with FTB for the year 2007 before Dec 31,2007? Or do I file the taxes for LLC along with my personal returns due April 2008?

Would appreciate is someone could clarify the sequence of documents (at what time) that should be filed to dissolve LLC.

Become income?

In October of 2005, I paid off 2 credit cards. I owed $5,000.00 on one, they settled for $4,000.00 and about the same with other card. This past year, 2007, I get a notice from the IRS calling what I didn't pay "income" and I have to pay taxes on the $2,000.00
I was not told by the credit card companies they would be sending a 1099 to the IRS and that it would be considered income, so I had no idea. I also never received a 1099 from either credit card company.

I must admit, I am not too experienced in life to know how I go about tracking these down... I have filed for the past 3 years, once with H&R Block and the last 2 with Tax Act Online... Any advice? Thanks in advance!

We bought the house in June 2004 and sold in Sept 2007. It was our primary (and only) residence for the whole time period. I was perusing tax manuals and it is my uderstanding that we can exclude any money we made because it was less than $250,000; we owned (well it was mortgaged does that count as owned?) the house, and we lived in the house for over 3 years. Is my understanding correct that we can exclude our gain on our taxes?

I recieved a phone call from someone who said they saw my name in the local newspaper for my house going up for Sherrif's Auction. I am 4 months late with my taxes and the money due is $622 I pay every 6 months). I moved at the time when taxes were due to another state, and it slipt my mind. I have recieved no information about this sale. Yes I did leave a forwarding address. My question is how can that be????I could understand if it was years worth or even thousands but $622?????? I originally thought that maybe a letter went to my home about back taxes and my nosey neighbors opened my mail. I am sick to my stomach worried, and cant do anything till morning anyway. If this really was in paper, am I really going to lose the house?

In 2007, I can only dump in $4,000. In 2008, that goes up to $5,000. The problem is that it's not enough. Can I jack up my after-tax contribution amount on my 401k with my employer & then roll that over into my Roth IRA?
