Sure, you can renounce your citizenship. Then if you move to another country you wont have to pay US Taxes, unless. Unless the IRS considers that the main reason for you renouncing your citizenship was to avoid taxes. Then you are still subject to US Income Tax on worldwide income. May be if you moved to a country that doesn't have an extradition agreement with the US, then may be you'd be safe from US Taxes. But what about the country you move to, wont you be subject to income taxes there? I think so.

If you decide to called your property "The Republic of Ben G", as your own country, and stop paying all taxes, the police/sherrif will eventually come and evict you for not paying your real estate taxes. Sure, you could declare ware on the US, but I don't like your chances of winning.

You're better off finding a good tax advisor who can show you how to pay less tax legally.

Not possible. And the "Straw Man" bit is just a joke that someone's pulling on you -- at your expense now that you've brought it up in a public forum. You've been had in public, my friend!

While you can relinquish your citizenship you must do so from a foreign country and must do so in the presence of a US ambassador or consular officer or other appropriate official. Merely filling out a form doesn't do it. (And should you wish to subsequently return, you'd have to get in line behind the rest of the immigrants trying to get here. Your status would be the same as theirs is.)

However even this will not let you off the hook for US taxes. Any money earned in the US (think bank accounts, etc.) is still taxable. Since you'd now be a non-resident alien it would be taxed at a flat 30% at the source instead of the lower rate it's currently taxed at. Loss of citizenship does NOT absolve you of any existing tax liabilities nor does it get you a bye on future tax liabilities. Non-resident aliens with US source income DO pay US taxes on that income in most cases.

On top of that, if the IRS believes that your reason for relinquishing your citizenship was to avoid taxes you will STILL be liable for payment of US income taxes for 10 full years. And, yes, the IRS has the clout to go after you for it in most foreign countries. In the few that they don't, you probably would NOT want to live in.

Addendum: I won't even waste my time on your other question. It's asked about 5 times a day by various Tax Kooks or clueless types. The answer will not change and if you're the type who doesn't believe the truth nothing anyone here says will convince you otherwise.

Just stop paying your taxes! Taxes are illegal and I would suggest everyone stop paying them! It is strong arm robbery on behalf of the federal government. If we all stop paying them, or a big enough group does, there is absolutely nothing they can do about it.

I don't have any information on the paperwork but they are right. The US government is gonna want their cut no matter what. I however do not share their ignorant submissive opinion on the taxes. No taxation without representation.

Stop reading Tax Protester websites and literature!!

Many, many people have tried claiming that they were a sovereign individual or "Citizen of Heaven" or some other crap like that and not one of them has gotten out of paying their taxes!!.....NOT ONE! The ALL CAPS argument has also failed every time it has come up in court. There is no such thing as a Strawman account!

File your returns and pay your taxes. You will be much happier in the long run.

Edit -----

Your argument worked well for this guy........

>>>>The Taxpayer argues, as a vigilant tax protester must, that he is not a citizen of the United States subject to its tax laws and that he owes no taxes. This argument is frivolous.<<<<

The Judge's decision:
>>>>DIRECTS the Clerk of Court to enter judgment on count 1
at the close of the case in the amount of $ 1,627,710.66 plus
interest since April 15, 2007, in favor of the plaintiff United
States and against defendant <<<<

Even though you might not be a citizen of the United States you'll still have to pay taxes if you live and work here.

The easiest way to stop paying taxes to the U.S. is to move to another country and renounce your U.S. citizenship. Let me know how that works out for you.

Oh for heaven's sake. If you live in the United States, then pay your taxes. Don't you appreciate the roads you drive on, the schools children go to, the safety you receive from the armed forces, etc.?
