I am doing a short sale on my house. The amt of debt forgiven will be about $100K. The lender will give me a 1099 for taxes on the 100K. Will Form 982 waive these taxes? How does it work? Do I have to qualify in some way?

Hello everyone. I keep getting two different answers to this question. So I thought I'd ask here on Yahoo. If I was married in 2006, but got divorced in 2007, do I file married on my taxes(because I was married in the 2006 tax year) or do I file single now that I am no longer married even though I am filing for my 2006 taxes? For anyone with this info, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I started a new job. In my first check there was no FED WT tax. Now in my second check, 2 weeks later, there is a FED WT tax. Why is it in this one?

Help! Is it possible to get a new mortgage with a tax lien on credit file?

We make over $300k a year and are coming out of a financial mess we got in w/a bad real estate market in Colorado. We are back on our feet and credit scores are coming up, no debt etc.

We are ready for new home purchase but now have the tax lien on our credit file.

Is there anyway we can get the tax lien rolled into a new mortgage? If yes, how do we find a lender who will do this? Our income is 100% verifiable and we are already living in the house. The owner let us do an extended close to end of October.

We need to get this done asap!

Thanks!
Josh

We own two homes, both work, and have two kids. We are getting killed come tax season and it seems there should be some tax advantages - but we aren't seeing them.

Okay I am changing to getting paid bi-weekly instead of weekly here is the layout to help:
Right now I get 520 before taxes and 430 after taxes
If I start getting paid bi-weekly and get a small .25 cents raise and end up getting 530 a week before taxes and that is 1060 every two weeks, I am claiming 1 on my taxes, I want to find out if anyone may be able to tell me about how much I will get every two weeks after taxes and if there will be a big change of the amount taken out. I know my mother said that it will change because I will be getting more on a single paycheck since it is every two weeks and that I will get a lot less then I normally do from 430 every week after taxes. Thanks

I (will) own no property in IN and will rent in WA. My car insurance in IN is very cheap (<$700). I have earned quite a bit of money this year in IN from Feb-Aug. Would changing residencies allow me to forego paying IN state income tax for this year?

I currently work as a staff accountant at a CPA firm and I am interested in becoming an Enrolled Agent.

I plan on taking a course tax course this fall either through our local junior college or through H & R Block and I am having a hard time chosing which to attend.

When I told my boss at work that I wanted to take a class this fall she thought the college course would be best. But I am not so sure...

I would like to study to become an enrolled agent and I want to chose the best way to prepare for the test. I have printed out the past test to look over for an idea of what will be on the test, but I want to make sure I can pass it. I see on Amazon.com they have study guides also...

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

I just resigned from my company of almost a year. It was the toughest decision I had to go through because they wouldn't do anything about a coworkers unethical behavior. I am going through alot of stress right now and they sent me my last paycheck, (spelling my name wrong) even though every other check they spelled it right. I got the correct amount if I was hourly but I was told that I'm supposed to get paid salary which meant that I get the same amount as I have been like on my other salaried paychecks. Is that true? I'm not really sure about the difference between hourly and salary, exempt and nonexempt? If I'm to get paid salary they cut my paycheck by half. Does anyone know anything about this?

PA IRS sent me a letter with their own figures changed from my tax report, with the result of a lower amount of refund to me. All of differences comes from that they remove the deduction of capital loss (Line 5 on PA-40 form) and make my total taxable income higher.

I asked the staff of PA IRS on phone, and she told me that it is simply because a PA tax payer can not report capital loss for deduction (or you can say they will not let you deduct it even though you report the capital loss), while if you have capital gain then you must report it and therefore pay a higher tax because of the additional earning.

I was never aware of this regulation, if it does exist instead of the staff giving wrongful information. So I wonder whether there is really such a tax law for PA state tax 2006? Any link to the specific law? Would people who are familiar with PA state tax laws please answer this question please? Thank you very much in advance.

I'm familiar with the phrase "The more you make, the more they take". But is there a pre-set percentage for taking taxes out of your check or does it vary?
