I was a political campaign manager and i hired several consultants to do work for us. I was wondering how I file the 1096 form and give my employees a 1099 form if I have no tax ID number. Can i just have them put this income down as "other income" on their 1040s?

I have a couple questions about filing taxes.

1. I don't own a home but can I deduct things such as the telephone tax and business expenses? If so, do I need to present receipts for business expenses that came out of my pocket, such as gas receipts?

2. The phone tax, can that be applied to your cell phone?

I also have 4 W-2's from 2006. I would like to e-file (because I can do it for free) this year. I normally go to H&R Block and have them do it but I know that they charge per W-2. I hope someone can help me, I don't want to go to H&R Block and have them lie to me just to get my business. Thank you in advance!!!

My husband and I got married last fall. I earn slightly more than he does. He claimed 0 on his tax return. I claimed married 1. I owed the IRS money. Can I claim 0 next year? (We filed as married but separately.) Or, should I claim 1 and withhold at the single higher rate?

I relocated from CA to TX in October 2006. I changed jobs within my comoany that required me to move. I payed for all of my own moving expenses. Now I want to write them off but I dont know what I can and can not write off. I have on my list for the actual move, "Moving container, Car transport, Air fair and Car rental".

Now I also made a couple of trips here toTX so I could find a place to live before I made my move. Can I write off those flights and car rental expenses as well? Is their anything else I am missing?

In April of 2005, before the tax deadline I put $3000 into an IRA through ameritrade and claimed that on my 2004 taxes. In April of 2006, I did the same thing but with the increased $4000 cap. Apparently ameritrade requires a slip to be mailed in to say to which year the contribution is supposed to go. Without the slip these contributions went to the calendar year they were bought in and not the previous years as allowed. So yesterday when I went to max my contribution for 2006 I saw that it was already maxed. How do I go ahead and fix this now before the penalties start accrueing. Ameritrade says they can back up $900 but that doesn't fix the problem.

It was an honest mistake and I have nothing to hide, but years of being forth coming and honest have taught me sometimes its best to keep my mouth shut.

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit.

In order to get that paycheck. I am required to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their ***. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Hi all, I'd accumulated some big loss few years ago but starting to have some gains recently. However, with such kind the gains, it may take 10+ years for me to get even. I am filing as a trader (tax status) now, and I want to find out:
how do I earn Social Security Credits if I have big loss the the past? or in general, how do traders earn Social Security Credits?

Any helps are greatly appreciately.

When you fill out your paperwork for a new job they give you the option to hold a set amount each paycheck for taxes. When you go to claim your taxes at the end of the year do you get the full amount you put into? Or do they tax that too? If they do then there would be no point to do that, am i correct?

I received a 1099-Misc in 2006 for work that was done in 2005. I used to be an independent contractor until Dec.2005.
I received my last paycheck for this work in Jan 2006.

However, I started working as a full-time employee at a company beginning Jan 2006.
How do I claim appropriate expenses against the 1099-Misc income in my 2006 tax return (since it was for work done in 2005)?

He didn't file taxes for 2005 and in that year, he put $20,000 on his own money (from stock he sold) into a business (with another guy) and made a little money. (less than $1000). They filed their company, got EIN number and all that stuff in October of 2005. He also had other income from W2 source.
Now in 2006 the company dissolved (in June) due to conflict between him and the other guy. They made no money in 2006. So I'm thinking he needs to file 2005 first because that's the year he sold the stock, started the business and made a little money. Then he should file this year at the same time. Can anyone shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

I just started a home based business and would like to know when and how do I pay taxes to the Internal Revenue Service? Do I have to register my business through the IRS as well?
