I've filed both my Federal and Maryland state tax. Just found out that I missed 2006 margin interest on my tax return. It's about $1500. I did have a net capital gain over $1,500. How can I add the margin interest to my 2006 return? Or can I simply add that amount to my next year's return? Thanks!

I bought 1000 shares MBNA stock at $25 dollars back in july 05.

MBNA was acquired by Bank of America and the transaction completed in 1/3/2006. I received $4,125 in cash and 500 shares of BOA at $47.08.

How do I record this transaction for the IRS? On my 1099 form, only the $4125 was reported to the IRS. Do I have a cost basis of $25000, and hence a loss of $4125-$25000 = $20875?

Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know if the Commonwealth of Virginia allows taxpayers to pay their dues through installments? I think this year I owe more than I can pay at the moment. I tried looking at the Virginia Dept. of Taxation Web site but to no avail. Am I looking at the wrong place or is there simply no method of paying in installments for state taxes?

What can I do? I've already made 3 attempts, and they keep telling me they will send them out. I'ts been over a month since the last time I called! Now what!? I worked as a Loan Processor. I never got paystubs, it was always cash/checks. Can I file my taxes without them? Can't my former employer get in trouble for that?

it doesn't seem fair to me. i'm not saying that the government should only have 3 years to catch fraudulent files because obviously that would pretty much encourage people to commit tax crimes but if the government doesn't have a time limit to catch tax fraud, taxpayers should also have the ability to re-file for a mistake on taxes if it benefits us. for instance, if i found out that i incorrectly filed my taxes from 5 years ago and that if it was filed correctly that i would've gotten a bigger refund, why shouldn't i be able to collect on that? a mistake is a mistake whether it's 3 years or not, or whether it benefits the government of the people.

I have been offered a personal loan from a company that communicates to me from Toronto Canada, however, they say their home office is in New Hampshire. I can't find a listing for them in the states anywhere. First, they told me I had to pay for an insurance policy in case I defaulted. Now they are saying that I have to pay for an International Border tax. Does anyone know if that is legal or legitimate? Thank you.

I've been working as an independent contractor for the last threes years. I keep a log of the income I bring in and use that at tax time. (most of it cash, checks) However, last year I was issued a 1099 from a company that I did some consulting work for. For this year taxes I have the one 1099 from this company plus other cash income from the business. I heard having one 1099 form maybe a problem for the IRS. Is this correct? ANy advice would be greatly appreciated
