My grandmother has social security income of $7,800 a year. It's her only income so it's tax exempt for her and she normally does not file a tax return. My Dad provides more than 50% of her support. But does she meet the income test for being claimed as a dependent since her income is all exempt?

I didn't file last year, and I already know I can file now FOR last year--I would get a refund.

These are my questions:
1. Can I file online for 2005?
2. If not, do I just request forms for 2005, fill them out and mail them in?
3. Can I file for state as well as federal for last year?

Thanks in advance for your answers. I know there are a lot of people out there with more knowledge of this stuff than I.

Please tell me everything I can use to maximize my returns.
Also tell me for which deductibles I have to provide documentation and for those no documentation is needed. This is the first time I'm doing tax myself and I'm using TURBO TAX. I will really APPRECIATE any SUGGESTIONS.

I am one of 4 heirs to my aunt's estate. My cousin is executor and handling all the paperwork. The estate value is about $275,000. Does the estate pay income tax AND estate tax, or is estate tax part of the income tax return that is to be filed? My cousin is pretty close mouthed about all of this...he is a CPA, and knows what he's doing, but I am just trying to figure out how much I might end up with. I know there is something called "unified deduction" that is deducted from the calculated estate tax. Anybody in the know, please reply. This is in Michigan. The attorney on the case charges big bux just to answer a question, so I can't call him.

government employees such as teachers and stuff are all tax payers, and they are the ones getting paid by the very taxes they are paying to the government. if their taxes exceed their salary, doesn't that mean that they are slowly losing money? OR if their salary exceeds their taxes, that would mean their making slightly more money. OR does the tax payer pay the amount of their salary?

is it one of those things where you pay the government, then they pay you back in addition to the money you're supposed to get?

I have a question about my taxes. Why is it that I only made 8800 last year, yet I had to pay 300 dollars in taxes come april 15th. I am a 22 year old student, took the standard deduction, and paid $94 in taxes during the year. Is it because my parents still claim me as a dependent? Or did I just miss some deductions and credits?
