Tax question about filing for 2005?

I didn't file last year, and I already know I can file now FOR last year--I would get a refund.

These are my questions:
1. Can I file online for 2005?
2. If not, do I just request forms for 2005, fill them out and mail them in?
3. Can I file for state as well as federal for last year?

Thanks in advance for your answers. I know there are a lot of people out there with more knowledge of this stuff than I.

There aren't penalties, are there, if I'm getting a refund from 2005? That would be just if I owe money, right?

And someone said I would get the 2005 AFTER the 2006? Has someone filed for a previous year before where they got a refund? If so, how long did it take to get your refund?

(1) No, you cannot file online for 2005.

(2) Go it www.irs.gov and print off the forms that you will need for federal purposes (probably a 1040, Schedule A, and Schedule B (interest and dividends) and maybe a Schedule D for capital gains.

(3) go to www.state.xx.us, where xx is the two-letter abbreviation of your state of residence. that will take you to your state home page, and you should be able to navigate around there and find the 2005 tax forms you will need, or at least a phone number you can call to get help.

Just file a return for 2005 as you normally would. On the outside of the envelope print "Return 2005". You can call your nearest IRS office to obtain penalties and interest or you will be billed for penalties and interest. Bear in mind penalties and interest are calculated by the day. Include any amounts due.
The audit will probably be done later than your 2006 return.

Yes for state last year.
You will, no doubt, receive your 2006 refund. Save it for the penalties on 2005 return.

Not sure about filing 2005 on internet. 2006 can be done.
