Yep. It's about 7 3/4 per dollar. Not everything is taxed. I've lived here for 28 years and haven't figured what is taxed and what isn't.

You can choose between your "general sales tax" and the amount of your Ca income tax and see which one is more advantages for you to take. It's a formula using 7.25% for the state and add an additional 1.0% to the rest of the state for the 8.25% of gross income to come up with the general sales tax that can be deductible when you itemize......

Sales Tax in California varies by county and sometimes city.

They seem to tax pretty much everything.
