I built a garage and deck on my rental property but not sure how many years these are depreciated .

Buildings DO get depreciated for tax purposes.

For residential real estate the life is 27.5 years.

You will be very interested in the information in Publication 527 from the IRS, especially page 14. (See link below)

Use the table figures to calculate your depreciation if the option isn't available in your tax software.

Those are depreciated at the same rate as the property itself -- 27.5 years. See table 3 on page 10 of IRS Pub 527.

Land & buildings do not get depreciated, they get land & buildings tax allowances at the rate of 2% pa
