First, it is not always cheaper. There are some cases where filing separately saves money especially when both spouses work but have different exemptions or deductions.

You get a combined standard deduction of $10,300 (for 2006) and the tax rates are lower for that filing status. If only one of you has income, it will definitely be cheaper. If both of you work it actually may cost you more.
The reason behind it is the law; the IRS only interprets and enforces the laws passed by Congress.

It is not cheaper than two filing single in our case. That's the marriage penalty. George Bush gave us $500 per kid out of one hand while he punishes us financially for being married with the other!

you could desire to checklist your marriage to SSI. so some distance as earnings, it relies upon on this way of good form of components and what temper the guy entering into the coaching is in that day on how plenty you will get. you could desire to teach in his pay stubs on the top of each and each month too. do not forget, ever! so some distance as your taxes bypass. you've gotten extra useful deductions in case you report jointly. fairly in case you're actually not required to report. (SSI does not count form as earnings for the IRS.) So Married jointly. And it relies upon on your venture.
