I have just purchased a pair of Ugg boots from Australia. There was nothing on the website about hidden charges. However I received a letter from Parcel Force saying that I had to pay £42 import tax to have the parcel!!! £42 how can that be right when I only paid £72 for the boots ??? How can they charge such a large amount in tax compared to the low value of the goods ?? Has anyone else been caught out like this? Is there anything I can do as that seems like a highly excessive amount of tax for one pair of boots. xxxx

I think that there won't be a smoking ban in the uk for very long because the goverment will lose too much money by doing this because less and less people will stop buying ciggarettes etc and the goverment won't be getting the taxes so who will have to replace the lost millions it will be us taxpayers who will end up paying higher tax

Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there are only a few days left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax.

The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at least take any notice.

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car t

If I became a jigilo in UK how much would I earn? I am thinking of doing this, but not too keen with doing old grannies. I would if I have to though. I need the money for a new house, and am almost perfect in looks. Would I still pay VAT? I think being a male prossie is safer than being a thief.

I have been overpaid on a number of occassions around £25 per time . I have complained about it and asked them to make sure they do not do this as they deduct the amount out of the blue some time later.
They have just deducted money that they overpaid over two years ago. Shouldn't they only be allowed to go back in the current financial tax year ?

i.e. offset tax with the costs in an investment flat - if I pay tax on a £30,000 income and then an investment flat costs £10,000 to upkeep it counts as a negative investment and therefore you only pay tax on an income of £20,000.
