I have a primary job in another field, but I have many friends and a few businesses asking me to do their websites. These are very few and far between but I do charge.

What do I need to do to be legal with this side work? I live in California -- do I file taxes quarterly or can I wait until the end of the fiscal year? How much do I need to prepare to take out? I'm doing everything under my own name, not under a business name...so is that contracting?

I am so absolutely confused - to the point I don't even want to start doing websites, even though the extra income would be nice.

I know this "question" is just a convoluted mess. But, if anyone would be kind enough to take me through this process it would be greatly appreciated.

I have NM state taxes withheld from my pension. This year I also worked in CO and state taxes were withheld there. Will I have to pay state tax on the $ earned in CO in NM and will I have to try to recover that CO $ by filing a tax return in both NM and CO?

She lives in NC now and is moving here to WI after we get married. Now, she goes to school but is transfering to my college. We don't want to pay out of state tutition but she doesn't want to wait too long either. Will filing her as a dependant on my 2007 return get her residency as long as we are married before Jan 1st 2008 and no one else claims her? Are there any legal implications I should be concerned about? Does it matter when in 2007 we get married even if its the last day of the year? And does anyone know if this will get her residency regarding college tuition for sure? Thanks.

My employer received a letter from the IRS, telling my employer to change my withholding to zero, the letter stated that I am not entitled to claim the withholding I am claiming and the IRS is telling my employer to change it to zero - can the IRS do this and does my employer have to do what this letter said? Its not some “court order” just a letter. Can I fight this issue?

I had a baby four years ago with my boyfriend at the time, I lived on my own for the first two years of my daughters life. At the end of 2005 her father and I decided to move in together. We do not consider ourselves common law as we do not share a bedroom and all of our finances are kept seperate. Her father runs his own business and I work for a company and I claim her as my dependent always have. Part of our re-assessment states that because he makes less money than me (his company makes much more money than I do he only shows as paying himself less) he must claim her as a dependent and they have sent me a 6,000.00 bill after re-assessment of my personal taxes. I don't understand!!! I pay for everything that has to do with her and he pays for the house this is merely a living arrangement for financial purpose and has nothing to do with us being a couple. Where can I go to have someone assist me in rectifying this assessment

I'm reading alot of dave ramsey stuff and he says that if you are getting a huge tax refund, you are lending the goverment money tax free. I was thinking about claiming 10, so I would have more money on my paychecks. i just don't want to have to owe at the end of the year.
