Your recent discovery is not new to a lot of us on Yahoo Answers and this same argument has all ready been heard. Title 26 of the United States Code which is based upon the 16th Amendment of the US Constitution is the authority for taxes. People who have not pay their taxes because of the same question that you brought before us have all faced fines, penalties and jail time.

The IRS is perfectly legal. What you've heard about there being no law that says you have to pay income tax is false. If you are liable for the income tax, you have to pay what you owe. However, I've been asking the IRS and members of Congress for years exactly what law makes the average American liable for a direct, un-apportioned tax on their wages and salary and have never gotten a straight answer.
Should a free people allow government to take over half of what they earn in taxes?
Challenge the conventional wisdom about the income tax laws and how they relate to the average American.
Don't take my word for it. Do some research on your own.

That has been a claim of Tax Protesters since 1913.
Not surprisingly, it has never been victorious in court.
Every couple of years, a new tax guru arises saying that the income tax is illegal or something to that effect. They usually end up flat broke and in jail. Many of the followers end up losing everything they have including homes, investments and their families.
File your returns and pay your taxes. You will be much happier in the long run.

bostonia... is mostly right. Your eyesight is fine; you did see correctly, but what you saw was incorrect. Even if you see somewhere that it says 9/11 did not happen and that the World Trade Center is still standing, it did happen and it is not standing. There is a law that says you have to pay income tax.

You "saw" wrong. Don't believe everything that you see on line. There's lots of good info on line. That isn't some of it.
The law is called Title 26 of the US Code. Google it if you wish to read it. Pretty dry and boring, but it IS the law.
Anyone who honestly believes that the government could get away with levying an illegal tax for 93 years is simply too stupid to be allowed to run with crayons, let alone handle their own finances.

Congratulations, you are the first person from the fruitcake fringe to post today.
If the fact that they system has been in place and functioning and passing muster with the supreme court for over 80 years isn't enough to convince you they you are suffering from oxygen deprivation.

Sure I've heard that the IRS is illegal. I've also heard a lot of other stupid claims, and that one ranks right up there with the most stupid.

Can we all agree to stop responding to this foolishness? Eventually these people will either grow up, or the courts will explain it to them.
