My husband is in the Army and we have no children. We make around $25,000 a year, and file jointly. I've been trying to sell off some furniture that we have (all in great shape), but have not been successful... if i took all of this furniture to Goodwill and got a receipt would it benefit us at all come tax time?

I moved out of my moms house about the middle of last year, so I was a dependent of hers for half of they year and the other half I was on my own.
SHe had her 2006 taxes filed by Globe Financial. I did mine by myself and mailed them in, the lady at Globe told my mom it was ok for her to claim me as a dependent on her taxes and for me to claim myself. So thats how we did it. She is a single parent of me and my sister so she got back a good bit in refund. I also got back about $400. Well now we were sent a 1040x for stating that I could not be claimed twice, which makes since.
Do we need correct it to her claiming me as a dependent? I am confused and every time I call the IRS I am put on hold forever and the lady that filed my moms taxes doesnt work there anymore so they wont help us there.

Ok, so I am a graduate student, and for the first time, I am getting student loans, which has pretty much cut down on how much I will pay (i.e. nothing...yet) each semester. Now, I know that at the end of the year, my school will send me a 1099 indicating how much I "paid" to the school. Will that show student loans as an amount I paid, and thus allow me to deduct that money on my 1040?

I'm trying to find out if I can claim 3 allowances on my W4. I was told to only claim 1 even though when I used the worksheet and it says:

1 if no one can claim me as a dependent.
1 for single and only one job.
1 for Head of Household

That would add up to 3 and get me more money each paycheck. It would bump it up by about $50, and I could use every cent I can get.
Someone told me that will hurt me at tax time, though. I may have to pay?? How can that be when I am doing what the worksheet tells me to?
Should I leave it at 1 even thought I need the money NOW every pay period, not at tax refund time?

We still owe for our 2005 taxes. We had them done by H&R block, but I believe the woman wo did them did them wrong. We owe double what we have paid the year before that and the year after with the same income, if not less. Can you redo your taxes? Can we have someone else look them over and resend them in?

Next year when i go to do my tax returns, will my return be affected by unpaid property taxes. Earlier last year a buddy of mine and I bought a house together in Sacramento, Ca and my buddy ended up stealing the money we had and moved out of state leaving the house to go to default. I've received many notices in the mail about unpaid property taxes- and I am worried because I cannot pay them- if when I go to do my income taxes to get a return if the unpaid taxes on my property will affect my income tax returns? Will I have to owe?? Please give me a good answer!! Thanks!!
Also can the people who control unpaid property taxes put a lien on your checking account and take money out?

I am single and bought a house this year. The total amount of interested I paid for the house will be $2500 and about $4000 in closing costs.

I paid about $1500 in state taxes and $1000 for city tax.

I might make over $50000...would that put me in a higher tax bracket? Is there a site that you can find all this information??? Thanks for the help guys!!!

Social security payments go up for a person that retires at a later age. Is the same true for a person that is disabled? Will filing at age (example) 55 for disability earn the disabled a smaller SSI check per month than filing for disability at a later age?
