We still owe for our 2005 taxes. We had them done by H&R block, but I believe the woman wo did them did them wrong. We owe double what we have paid the year before that and the year after with the same income, if not less. Can you redo your taxes? Can we have someone else look them over and resend them in?

If you believe your return was wrong and that you paid too much tax, you have until April 15, 2009 to amend the return and request a refund.

Since you paid H&R Block to do the return, go back to H&R Block and ask that the return be reviewed. It might be good to bring in the prior year's return, or your 2006 return, and have them compare the returns. Also, bring any correspondence you received from the IRS, since you stated your taxes are still unpaid for 2005.

If the paid preparer did the return wrong, they will do an amended return for free, for you to mail in. You will not owe any tax or penalties in the case a refund is due.

Go immediately because the tax season is starting for H&R Block in the middle of December.

You can amend a return at any time. However if the amneded return claims a refund you have 3 years from the filing deadline or 2 years from when the tax was paid, whichever is later, to claim the refund.

Since Block prepared the return, you should go back there first and have someone else review the return for errors. If there are any errors, the Block office will prepare the amneded return without charge. If there are any penalties due to the amended return, Block will normally pay those as a mater of policy if the error was theirs. You will be liable for any tax if any is due.

Can You Redo Your Taxes

Yes, you can still amend your return if it's wrong.

Did you have less withheld in 2005 as the year before? Was any of the 2005 income from self-employment where it wasn't the year before? Either of those would change what you owe, possibly a lot.
