I am being audited by the IRS for tax years 2004, 05, and 06. Most people who have had taxes prepared by my accountant are in the audit process with the IRS as well. Much speculation is that the CPA is in trouble with IRS? My issue is that every person who has been to the IRS office meeting so far has had to repay the IRS thousands of dollars. I have talked to people who are paying anywhere from $4,000 to $9,000 to far. My question is that when people go to an accountant in good faith that he/she knows what they are doing and this is the magnitude of what has happened, it is obvious that there is a problem with the CPA. If this was just a problem with my taxes, I would not be so upset but this is a problem with a large number of the CPA's clients. Several people have went to look for the CPA to speak to the person but have been unable to locate. I am curious to know if this is criteria for a class action law suit or something that would be legititmate cause for law suit at all.

I read that if you dont get a business license and you run an at home based business and your neighbors dont complain about your work, its unlikey the IRS will find out and make you pay a fee as well as put your business on hold until its done. Now, in the state of FL, if I chose to not get a license because the type of business (event planning) did not require one, would I still have to pay taxes?

my company is relocating and i've only been there for a year, ive been sent a package that says i will be entitled to 25% of my annual pay. also a girl who has only been there for 6 months is also gettin this package. but ive lookied on the net and it says u have to work a minumum of 2 yrs to be entitled to redundancy pay. i questioned the manager and she said they are offering so much because then people will leave and then they will have to train completley new people for a few months till they close and they cant waste their time doing that. im i being taken for a ride and hanging around for nothing?

Basically, I know I need to pay taxes at tax time, but I want to plan ahead to be able to save for it, so I'm not screwed when tax time comes. I need to find out both federal and state (Arizona). My total income is going to be approximately $28,000 with $3,000 of that being the non-taxed part of it, and the other $25,000 taxed already.

I'm trying to figure out which one gives more saving. My company provides a $5000 max in flexible spending account for dependent care. So with $5000 before tax, I could earn up to $1500/year for a 30% in income tax.

I don't know how much I can get if I claim for dependent care in my income tax return. I have one child and I would have to paid about 30% for income tax.

Has anyone compare these two before? which one is better for you?

I live in Iowa, in Jan 2007 I was laid off from Target, and got another job the following month. I've worked for the same company ever since. I get approximately $10 per hour, and was wondering what percentage of taxes paid will be refunded, if any. This is my first year doing my own taxes, so I'm trying to calculate ahead so I know how to budget this next return. I'm hoping to get an iPhone with it!
