I recently became an officer in a very disorganized non-profit organization. We are tax exempt but there are no forms in the pile of paperwork that say that. In order to open a new account we need an IRS ruling letter of tax exemption. What exactly does this look like and how can I get another one? Thanks in advance

i'm the director of a pregnancy help center and we need to move our office. would a business owner be able to get a deduction for allowing us to use a part of there building rent free? and if not, would it be unethical to pay them rent and then have them pay us back and call it a donation? any thoughts would be great! thank you!

I have a $ 227.00 difference between what my personnel action report from my bosses says and what actually shows up as my salary on my paycheck- shouldn't they match? Do they have to reimburse what they haven't paid? I just realized this has been going on for 6 months.

As I`ve noticed from yearly statistics, the average salary in my profession seems to be $65k per year in U.S. (I`m currently in Europe and have a B1-Visa, though my wife and kids don`t have VISA).

The question is whether it`s possible to live a normal life with a family of 5, where wife isn`t and wouldn`t be working - thus it would be the only income. With 2-3 more yrs of experience, I could jump to around $75k, which I know is enough to survive from month to month.
Of course, I`m not talking about living in those more expensive places like SanFran, NYC or Bay area - there are many cheaper places in U.S. where costs of living are significantly lower, while salaries are just 10% lower (compared to national average in given field).

How much would I actually get from that $65k salary to my bank account after all taxes ? Range is enough. I`d guess around $3100 ?

What about medical insurance ? How much does that usually cost each month

A friend of mine owes taxes on her home from 2006. She said that if she doesn't pay by the end of the month that they will sue her? Does the government sue for stuff like this or do they just tack on a bunch of penalties and interest? Can they take her house?

In situations where you've taken a full withdrawal from a 401(k) plan and had the check made payable to you, the plan administrator withholds 20% and that is sent to the IRS as a tax payment.

In the tax form relating to these distributions, it says that if you make up the 20% from another source and rollover the full amount, you MAY receive that 20% back as a tax refund.

Unfortunately, it doesn't clarify what they mean by "may." I'm assuming it means that if you owe any taxes, that money would be deducted from the 20%. But if you break even or are due a refund, you would get the 20% back.

Is that correct? Or does "may" indicate some other evil IRS reasoning?

There was some unpaid 941 taxes when we split. The IRS went after him because of his assets to obtain the money. I have done everything in my power to get them to leave him alone. they have now got their money from him and he is sueing me.

I am curious what kind of tax return I will get on all the overtime I will have worked this year. I file single and claim 0 and usually get a decent return, but this year is different in that I have a salary then on top of that I am paid overtime which I am charged roughly 40% to taxes.
Also, why tax overtime pay more than salaried pay?

If you win a-lot of money, why do they take out the taxes? I know if you buy something you haft to pay tax, but why do they take out the tax if you won a-lot of money? That's your money that you have won. You should keep all of your money.
