Hi. . . I work full-time, and go to school part-time. I want to claim the max for school deductions, but I have a child that is not mine that I can claim as well. How can I get the maximum back without getting audited? Is it safe to claim both school and a child? or should I just go with one or the other? If anyone has experience with this please let me know. Thanks.

Hello,
I have a second job. It's a part time job. I'm NOT self employed, I have a contract for partime/overtime.
The issue is that this job is 100% made from my home, through the internet. Can I deduce some expenses as: internet cost, new PC purchased, % of my rent from my income tax?
Thanks

I didn't even realize there was a limit, I've never gotten this much before. My AGI is only about $23K and I badly need the EIC; my refund has gone from $2500 (last year) to $200, even carrying my college daughter. I haven't actually filed yet, just got far enough with an efile to be hit with this terrible news. Should I go to a tax preparer or a CPA? And I don't have a 401k, if I started one now would that offset enough to get the EIC? Help!!

I am in the military and a TX resident (no state tax). My wife and I live in MD and she works and pays taxes there. We have several savings accounts that have a couple of thousand dollars in interest income for the year. They are joint accounts. How do we figure how much of that joint interest is subject to MD state tax?

My 13yr old delivers papers once a week. She received a 1099-Misc. form and it shows her earnings in box 7 ($1094). This is her total earnings for the entire year and she has no unearned income. Does she have to file a return and a schedule C and pay SE tax since she is a dependant and her earned income is less than $5,150? She is a full time student and is hardly considered self-employed. Thanks in advance.

My accountant does my taxes every year. He charges me $350. Is that amount, the "tax prep fee", deductible on my return? I'm thinking about doing them myself for '07 with Turbo Tax...but if the cost of having him do them is deductible, then I'll just stick with the accountant. I don't want to ask him directly cuz I don't want him to know that I may not be using his services again.
