What is the value of a used printer? Key word is used? Is it the value of what you would find on eBay or Amazon....or a deprecation of the original purchase cost...but the product changed hands.

This printer costed supposedly $310 when it was first purchased - 2004. (2004 is considered old!) I now can get it new one Amazon for $160 but I can buy it used on eBay for $36. So how much would a tax receipt be worth? $310 less 10% per year for business depreciation, $160 for a new one but it isn’t new, or $36 for the fair market value for a used one on eBay?

Anyone have any ideas?

I joined a company in Oct 2006 and incurred business expenses (which were approved by the CEO) totalling $3500.00 in tax year 2006, of which ZERO was reimbursed to me. The company was also remiss in paying me my salary for a certain period (roughly $7000). In late Jan 2007 the company's assets were foreclosed, the company is no longer in business, and it is very likely I will never recoup any of these approved expenses or salary (Yes - I have filed a claim with the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement board and I have a hearing in April). Can I claim these amounts as a casualty loss for last year? If some or all does get recouped can I account for it on the 2007 return? If not casulaty loss is there another option to lessen my tax burden from this lost income?

Thanks!

I asked this question about 4 to 6 months ago. It was about a phone tax that everyone was paying for the last 100 years. I didn't know the name of tax but the telephone people couldn't even tell you what it was. People that replyed to my question didn't believe me or wanted a name of the tax. Well guess what, I was watching the news last night 2-25-07 and they mentioned it and i was right. I'm not bragging, I just want to let everyone know that when you do your taxes that there is a line that needs to be filled out. They said that everyone should recieve about $60.00. I don't remmember the amount but they said it would cost the government so many billions of dollars, so pass the word. This is a fact from Jack!!!
P.S. This was a tax i believe from the Spanish American War. Have a great day.

Last year I bought a home. I know the interest and taxes may be deductible. A friend told me that the closing costs were also deductible. Is this true?

I have two questions I was hoping someone could/would help with?

1. After having filed my 2006 taxes (I've received and spent my refund), I just realized that I didn't file one of my W2s. Last year was really hectic for me, and I worked a number of jobs. Somehow or the other, I missed out on one. What do I do now..? Does anyone know? Do I 're-file'? Doesn't/wouldn't/shouldn't that affect the refund collected?

2. Also, as I didn't file my taxes at all in 2005 (this one wasn't negligence. I was out of the country), I requested a copy of my W2s from that year, and will be filing it tomorrow... Does anyone know how (or if) Question 1 affects this?

I hope I haven't been too confusing. If anyone can help, please do... I'm going insane with thoughts of being audited by the IRS.

When I do my taxes, is it ok to use my 1098-t form I printed from online? It still has the same information as the official one.

They don't send in the form either right? I'm trying to clarify this all, this is my first time using it.

I e-filed my Federal taxes yesterday and got approval from the IRS, all I need to do was mail in the 8453-OL and I would get my direct deposit.

I found out today that I did not include some interest income on loans and need to adjust. I have the 1040X amend form (which is another question on how to fill it out!). I see that this takes 12-weeks for the refund.

Here's my question: do I send in the 8453-OL now and get my return, then send in the 1040X later on and wait for whatever that adjusted balance is? Do I hold off on sending the 8453-OL, and then wait for the amended paperwork to got through, which would then mean I have to wait 12 weeks for the full refund?

I know I need to print out and mail the 1040X, not sure of this other stuff though, thoughts?

Tax lien was paid with federal tax return money last year. The state automatically took what was needed to pay it and then I received the rest of my federal return then. State of Ga. dept of Rev shows it paid but courthouse does not. Dept. of rev supposedly sent release to courthouse but was lost and now they are all just waiting. I have called dept. of rev repeatedly for over six months and still is not resolved. Tax liens have been paid since 02/13/06. Need Help bad!!!!!!!
