Tax refund - If I had $8,000 taken out for taxes and I make $40,000 a year, how much should I expect to receive back in my refund? Thanks!

SO MUCH depends on your situation, married? kids? single? homeowner? Standard deduction...itemize???From the info you give its impossible to tell you what kind of refund you may or may not get.

Check out the Tax Refund Estimator tool on the H&R Block website. It will ask you all the pertinent questions, kids, filing status, deductions, income, etc.

It's handy to have your W2 with you when you fill it out.

where do you live? What is your filing status? Any dependents? Standard deduction or itemized? If itemized, how much?

Sorry but you gave WAY too little info and if anybody gives you an estimate, they will be wrong.
