Ok more detail. I am a tax preparer and this year the state has taken 2 to 3 weeks longerthan usual. These returns are with the efile system not paper. I was just curious as to know if anyone really knows why.

Yes. Because the state is bankrupt. Gov. Granholm has promised your refund check to the failed auto industry to help pay for the loser UAW workers vacation homes in Florida. Sorry...it's true.

It is only February, so it hasn't been that long yet. Many people who are getting refunds file at the beginning of the year, so I'm sure our state has alot of people like you who are wondering the same thing. They say it take 4 to 6 weeks for paper returns (mailed in). If this is how you filed, then the check should fall somewhere in this time window. If there are any problems with the return, such as an incorrect entry, inadvertant mistakes like math calculations, or conflicting data on your W2 form(s), that would delay your refund also. Hopefully it will arrive soon! To eliminate this problem altogether, change your filing status to a higher number and less tax money will be taken from your paycheck. It will be like giving yourself a raise!!! (and keeping the state from holding onto your money all year!) Good Luck!
