I am a 23 year old male, that will file at independent. I did not file my taxes for year 04 and 05. I filed for extensions in those years, but I am obviously overdue on the extension. The IRS would have approximately owed me $1500 for both years. I have capital gains in both years (1099) and I will file for the Hope Tax Credit in one year and the Deduction (I forget the name) in another.

1. Can I choose the year I file the Hope Tax Credit? I know that I can select two years, but I want to choose 05 because I have a larger payment to school.

2. What is the quickest way to receive my refund?

I came across this website offering free tax software to prepare your tax return for free. It even claims that you can e-file for free. I've always used TurboTax and paid for the software and to e-file. Has anyone ever used this software? Is there a catch?

I have a regular job with the regular salary I budget myself on and already received a w2 from my employer.

In 2006, I took some extra retail work throughout the year to supplement my income....for about 1,500, 200, and 400 in each job, so about $2,100 total. Do I need to claim this income since it is in addition to my regular salary, even though combined it is under $3,000?

If I file without them, can I amend my return later? Is this a big process to do so?

Thank you

I had an early distribution of my 401k. When it was distributed, the company said that I could elect to have all the taxes and penalties taken out at the time of the distribution instead of waiting until tax time. I had them do this, but now I'm wondering what do I put on my taxes? Do I claim it still even though I was already penalized? Is there a special form?

My hubby and I were separated at the end of 2005. We got back together in March 06 when he got hurt. He has very little income (2 months). What would be the best way to file this year? Can we still e-file since I love getting my money right away? Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For example, say a business bought an asset that cost $100,000 and it has an economic life of 10 years, does that mean the business gets to write off $10,000 a year for 10 years in taxes, or am I understanding it wrong? Is there a limit to how much a business can write off in depreciation? Thanks
