My hubby and I were separated at the end of 2005. We got back together in March 06 when he got hurt. He has very little income (2 months). What would be the best way to file this year? Can we still e-file since I love getting my money right away? Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. You can efile either married joint, or married separate.
2. Chances are the best way to file is married joint. This will however depend on your joint income level. Typically the brackets are divided equally in half when you file separately. If your spouse does not "use up" his half, your income will at a lower tax rate. I have rarely seen where it pays to file married separate. Once again, you must look at the total picture so be sure to consider the state returns too! Also, filing separately may qualify your hubby for other things like the earned income credit, saver credits if he contributed to a retirement plan, etc...

You can still file married filing joint assuming you were married at the end of 2006. You can still e-file and receive a faster refund.

You can file electronically regardless of whether you file jointly or separately.

If you have time-do the worksheets both ways and see which method is most beneficial for you.
