Tax law and regulation is changed every year at both state and federal levels. Last year's TurboTax definitely will NOT work for this year.

Yes, because the new software will have new rules. For example, in Washington state, we can no longer write off sales tax, because our government didn't get around to extending the law.

You need to have the current year version. The updates on the site do not update previous years to current, just update the current year's software for new changes that come along after that year's version is created.

like the others said, there are constantly new updates. however if you stick with turbotax your information will automatically be saved, as well as any other tax returns you may have prepared. you wouldnt need to reinput the personal information for the next year.

Yes but try just signing in online. I do mine every year through their website so I don't have to buy the software every year.

due to the frequency of tax law changes, I would at least get an upgrade, should be a little cheeper than whole new program.
