I am starting my own online business. It is small, it will be run out of my house (in Los Angeles, CA), I will be the only person involved and I will be selling art pieces that I create myself. I have researched many websites including the tax franchise board, the IRS, the Small Business Association, but I find them all so overwhelming and confusing. Do I have to charge sales tax? Do I need a Federal Tax ID? Do I need a State Tax ID? Do I need a California Seller's Permit? I can't seem to find a place that narrows down the start-up requirements. Thanks!

I have this on my website, down near the bottom, which is not seen unless you scroll way down.

"Praise God for everything.

The greatest commandment: "Love the Lord, your God..., and love one another as you love yourselves." - Jesus"

One of my customers wrote to complain: "offensive to find a Christian message on your web site" and "it's invasive to mix your personal religious beliefs with your business outreach.

When in the hell will you christian fundamentalists recognize we live in a pluralistic, separation of church and state and business country. And that many of us disdain this in-our-face proseletyzing. Christians or not."

Many of my clients are Christians and I am prone to saying "God bless you." even when someone doesn't sneeze. I do not think separation of church and business is something I have heard before. I am a Christian but know there are differing opinions.

What do you think?

I will be opening a banquet hall type facility that will accomodate weddings, receptions, parties of all types, proms, corporate meetings, etc. I want a name that will let everyone know that this facility is not only for weddings and receptions, but for other types of events as well. I will provide catering, complete planning and execution of events. Thinking of having a "dinner night" once or twice a month especially for adults to enjoy a nice romantic candlelight dinner with soft music and dancing. Any more ideas welcomed.

I was exploring Yahoo! last week and came across this great website that had all kinds of information on kiosks and home based businesses. It had links to lots of business websites with opportunities. Does anyone know of such a website. I thought I added it to my favorites, but I didn't.
