Have a home-based gift business. Want to create an online store where I can direct people to go to purchase my products. I already have a merchant account that I use for creditcards at home and when I am out selling. I have a credit card terminal that I use. I want to be able to link up my existing merchant account to a website that I can create online

there are plenty hostiong services that offer also SSL certificates for online transaction. SSL = secure socket layer) or preset marketing accounts. Some offers also premade shops, so all you need is to add your products.

www.godaddy.com
www.bluehost.com
www.ipowerweb.com

You need to ask your merchant account company if they also offer support to online transactions thru a SSL website.
In this case you should be able to keep using your actual account.

You can host your site on any number of hosts like godaddy.com. I would suggest using a company that has an ecommerce website with a templates for stores and good customer service to coordinate with your existing merchant.

I would suggest Homestead, its pretty simple to set up, you can learn more at http://www.nomorecubes.com/websites/.

I hope this helps! Best of Luck!
