I am 26 years old and over $18,000 in debt. About $9,500 of it is in credit card debt, $4000 in car loans, and $4000 is in a lien for an accident I caused. There is another $700 in miscellaneous debt. I am married with two small children. My husband and I have a monthly gross income of about $3200. In about a year, I will be needing a student loan for my last bit of college. We do not own a house, but we do own one car (the other we are paying off). We would, in about three or four years, ideally, like to try and get a house. Should i file bankruptcy now? What would I lose, if anything? The two cars we have are 6 and seven years old. I appreciate any advice.

I am a college student and am unemployed except for a part-time summer job. I have a little money saved up but nothing huge. I looked at Vanguard but their minimum requirement for opening a Roth is $3000. I don't have anywhere near that amount of money saved up. Does anybody know if I can open one for less with another brokerage firm? Also, can anyone recommend some firms that would be good choices and charge little or no fees? Your help is greatly appreciated.

My husband and I argue about tithes, because we are struggling. Paying to an institution 10% of our little to none income. I do not know any rich people that pay tithes and if we saved what we gave we would be better off. He gives the excuse we would be steeling from god if we didn't. But how can we be steeling when god owns everything anyway? We're just borrowing everything for a short time, anyway. So what is it for besides to make some fat cat fatter?

I don't mean to step on toes here and no i have never stolen someone's bank card...I am asking these questions simply because I'm trying to find out if someone is trying to scam me. The person is currently in Nigeria, but lives in the US and is telling me that inorder for him to access his acct., he would have to use his thumb print. All I wanted to know was whether it was true or not. I have never heard of it before now. I don't have to scan my thumb print to access my accts. He is wanting me to send him money so he will be able to board the plane over there to return here to the US. Perhaps I didn't word my question properly. To Faye H...am truly sorry for repeating my questions, but I'm merely trying to protect myself and thought someone might understand what I was getting at. Again, I apologize to all.

My wife stopped working for a corporation when we had our child. Her 50K+ 401k has been rolled over into investments to avoid witholding but there is an additional investment account that she never paid a dime into (corporation did) and was to be like a "pension" upon retirement. As she was fully vested upon resignation, she can now receive a lump sum disbursement but I was concerned as to how much we would actually receive. Amount is only about $3,700.00. What in addition to the 20% federal witholding could we expect to incur?

I'm a senior in high school and I work part time and make about 50 to 100 dollars a week. I also get 500 dollars a month from my dad (weird family situation). And I only pay for my cell phone and lunch money at school which comes out to about 100 dollars a month (both of them combined). But I feel like im addicted to spending money. I go to wal-mart a lot or to other stores. I have plenty of money in my bank account for a girl my age but i know i should be saving more of it then spending. I'm entering college next year so I want to try to break these habits now. How can i get the self control not to shop when i have money but I want to save it for college and eventually a new (well, used) car. Please give me personal experiences, websites, advice, tips, anything!

I have seen several questions recently for people reactions to the new US $1.00 coins. Mostly people do not like them and have no desire to start using them. So if you were the US Mint, how would you get people to use them?

Personally, I like them. I am starting to use them when I leave tips, and for small purchases. I know a lot of retailers do not like them, so I was thinking about having a button printed up "time for a change? Give me $coins..." or something like that. I have also thought parents could give them to their kids as allowance-might be an interesting way to see the 'power of youthful spending'.

PS: I do not work for the gov't in any way shape or form
