I came across (legally) $3000. But since I don't need it for mortgage or bills I can blow it on something awesome. I already have a big TV and a newish computer.

My bank gave me a debit card and with it comes up to 300.00 over the amount i have in the bank for just in case purposes but what they failed to tell me was that for every charge over what i have in the bank they will charge me 31.00 even if it is a dollar. I think it is rediculous they put the 300.00 on there for a reason and now they are charging me for this. my ? is does the USA have a law like the UK does on getting back your rediculous bank fees

I am 43 and my daughter is 4. I am starting late on saving for retirement and would like to set aside money for my daughter's education. I am considering hiring a CFA to set up some accounts to accomplish both these goals. Aside from liking the CFA's approach, I have little knowledge of his background and track record. Is there a good way to approach the situation and sift through the over abundance of funds and options available? I hope to retire in about 20 years and send my daughter to four years of college. Is there any hope of accomplishing these goals, with little set aside so far?

I am 72 yo widower spending above my retirement income. I can refinance 2 mortgages and use equity to pay off $40K cc plus take out $50K cash. That would leave me about $200,000 in equity still in house worth about $570,000 located in good housing market area. I will have no other debts, but my living expenses will take up all my retirement income and more from the remaining IRA income that must be taken out anyway under IRS(but not very much). I have sufficient life insurance/health insurance and hope to live moderately, but not skimping on travel and fun things until age 85 (13 years) since I am single. After 85 I will rely totally on retirement income, all of which is from governments and indexed to COL. Before or at that time I might sell the house which should have appreciated 100 % in 10 years based on past 20 years appreciation continuing. Is it best to use only IRAs to pay off the $40 K cc or to use a new home equity loan to pay it off. Need ANSWERS, spec. from experts, pls.

I'm looking for work. I haven't found something I'm satisfied with, but I know there will have to be a time when I must take whatever job is before me because "I need the money." I'm trying to figure out at what point that is. What magic dollar amount in your savings account is the red flag?

I am NOT talking about emergency money. I have that already, locked away and ready for a dire emergency. I don't consider job hunting a dire emergency.

There is a certain dollar amount where I start to feel uncomfortable if my savings should fall to that amount. There's no financial reason for feeling uncomfortable at that amount. I just do. I can live perfectly well if my account should fall below it, which it has. But I'm wondering if there's a financial rule, a smarter rule, you can give to know what amount to flag as too low.

I have a job offer that I don't like, but it is the only thing that is a sure thing right now. How do I know if I have to take it because "I need the money?"

My husband and I are about to go apply for a mortgage here in about a week. We need copies of our W-2's and tax returns. I know he can call his employer and have them send copies of his W-2's... but we need copies of his tax returns from the past 2 years. I heard you can go online and get them (even print them out right away) but how? I need the copies of the tax returns like ASAP! If anyone has suggestions, PLEASE LET US KNOW!! We need to get them fast... We don't mind paying a little money... but if anyone knows an easy way to get them online and print them out, let me know... or if I am going to have to do it the hard way and go to the IRS building and do it myself. I have been on www.irs.gov but they want you to fill out a form and send it in the mail and wait for them to send it back to you, isn't there any easier way? Thanks everyone!!!

Does that mean that I will get a bill from the credit card company that sponsors my debit card? Why use debit? Why use credit? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using either?

I just recently sold my computer to someone who sent me over what I asked for in the form of a cashier's check, and now wants me to send the excess funds back to her. She keeps telling me that she is going to report me if I don't send the check to this third party, what do I do? I am so confused, and I still have the money in the bank, but I don't know what to do.

Does anyone else feel as frustrated with their online service as I am.

It will not let you amend standing orders online. You have to cancel one and then set up a new one.

However, if there is already another standing ording going into that account, you cannot set up a new one.

It will not let you transfer between accounts, nor pay out, more than £10,000 in any one day, irrespective of the balance of your accounts
