I was curious what works for other people out there who has to manage their finances on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.

When I first moved out of the house I wasn't tought about how to budget and pretty much had to fall on my face. I had a checking account but didn't keep good records and would be naive and bounce checks so I started getting money orders for everything and that helped to have better tabs to where it went.
By the time I had my second child I got the hang of using the checkbook register and would highly recommend that to anyone who is learning about budgeting or doesn't have financial software.
When we bought our first computer it had Microsoft Money on it and I didn't like it and would forget to log things so I deleted the program and went back to paper method.
A few years later I decided to try the Quicken software which was verison 2004 and got hooked. I'm currently using verison Qkn Deluxe 2006 and was wanting to upgrade but didn't need investment catagories.

I am 20 years old and I feel as though I have so much debt. I have a credit card that is $500 and its maxed out and then one for $300 maxed out and another one for $400 which is 1/2 way maxed out. Then I have two payday loans each $400 which I'm making payments on....I make payments on all of these every month but it doesn' feel like I'm getting any closer to making them a lower balance. I pay a lot a month too...

Does anyone have any good tips on how to save money? My husband and I would like to purchase a house in the next year or so, but it seems almost impossible to save the money we earn. We do not splurge on huge things, we live and buy what we NEED. Only once in a great while do we really treat ourselves. Any tips on a good way to save money?

Jill and Ray are Brother / Sister. Ray wants to buy a new TV, but he doesn't have the money for it right now. Ray says that he will pay Jill $2,000 in five years if Jill gives him $1,600 for the TV today.

Jill feels that there's an interest rate of 6% if she were to put the money in a bank instead of lending it to Ray.

Assuming that there is no risk of Ray not paying the $2,000 when he says he will, should Jill go through with the loan or should she put her money in the bank?

i was applying for college online last night. i was paying for it through applyweb.com and you can pay with a credit card or a check. i tried to pay with a check and i typed in the router number and account number and hit submit but it went back to the same page with all the info erased. i didnt recieve a confirmation email or confirmation screen, so i used my debit card instead and it worked. i dont know if the electronic check went through or not. should i call my bank to have it cancelled and to see if it went through? can i? or what should i do so im not charged twice? thanks

it said before i paid that it would take 6 days to process the check thats why im worried because i dont know if it would send a confirmation email after the 6 days or what

I use a big bank for savings, but have been hearing good things about ING Direct. I can get a much better rate on savings accounts with them. Are they easy to work with? Reputable? Easy to bank online with? Easy to deposit/transfer/withdraw money?

I am not going to move the money to other types of funds, so please limit your answer to savings account suggestions, please. Thanks!

Last June I changed my mortgage lender to a new one because the term came to an end. As I left my old lender I was told I would be charged a discharge fee of £300 which was fine. Well it’s 7 months later now and my old lender hasn’t asked for the money for the discharge fee. Have they forgotten? What should I do?

I'm 18 years old, and i woud like to move out into my own apartment or even a rental house. I would have to pay $50 a month for a cell phone and would most liely not get a land line. i would also have my car insurance to pay, which may be around $1600 every 6 monthes (yeah it sucks). what else, other than rent, would i have a need to pay for and what is the average cost? Also, I live in Maryland. I'm only getting paid $8 an hour now, but i hope to move up to $10 and try my best to get by on that without a roommate. Thanx!
