Last June I changed my mortgage lender to a new one because the term came to an end. As I left my old lender I was told I would be charged a discharge fee of £300 which was fine. Well it’s 7 months later now and my old lender hasn’t asked for the money for the discharge fee. Have they forgotten? What should I do?

Are you sure it was not added to the balance of your current mortgage?

Normal practice is that they ask if you would prefer to pay the fee up-front or have it added to the balance owed.

You should get an annual statement from all of your mortgage providers so if you haven't heard from them and your statement is overdue I would guess you are already paying your new provider interest on the extra £300 now owed.

They will fleece you every time so if you have got away with something good luck to you & fingers crossed they remain in the dark!

you could spend it but if they have not removed the mortgage from your title deeds it will only arise at a later date. Have a word with your solicitor it might be that it was actually dealt with at the time.

It was probably done at the time of remortgage, but it would be worth checking with the solicitor!
