My employer had no workmans comp insurance. My back was injured lifting a handycapped man into a van. I have contacted several city and state aid agencies but there all telling me that there is nothing available at this time or I have to get on a waiting list. How can one wait, when I can't pay my rent or car payments. How long will it take before a landlord can evict you?

If you got injured on the job I would contact workers compensation. Otherwise, you need to apply for short term disability and see what you can do about retraining into another position. If you are too injured to retrain currently, then just focus on recuperation, I think you will have a year on disability and after then you can apply from there for permanent disability if needed. Just remember that disability is not a full time hourly wage, but rather just a monthly stipend of sorts. So, if you can retrain and recuperate it would be best. Prayers =)

every state is different....call your Dept. of Human Resources office, the place where you get food stamps. They should be able to list the departments that give help.....I know someone right now that gets 90 dollars towards their electric bill monthly. There is help, you just have to ask and connect with the proper people....I would apply for anything and everything, it takes a second to get into financial rears, and so long to recover from it....so if you need food stamps, get them!! NO SHAME in needing help if you have to have some help getting by..... I have used them years ago, when I NEEDED it, got off of them when I got on my feet....I know you must be stressed, but the longer you wait, the further you will go without....best of luck to ya'...

Well according to the "financial experts" you should be putting money away for a rainy day, ha ha ha ha ha!
Hard to do when sometimes one item at the grocery store could cost what you get paid for an hours work.
Wouldn't it be great if it were the fifties again and one (job) income could buy a decent house and car, and we could ALL be living the American dream instead of just the people who are cut throats, *** kissers, or working their every waking moment to keep up? GRRRR

Not knowing your full situation I am taking a gamble here. There are many jobs that are suitable for disability situations. My advice, look for a brand new fresh start in an area you may have never considered. Possible blessing in disguise?

this happened to me about 6 yrs ago, I was about ready to get evicted from my apt and no food in the house, elec was about to get turned off etc etc, anyway I called the social and health services in my area and they help me with one mouths rent and I called the Salvation Army that helped me with the elec.bill and not only with rent but got 3 mouths worth of food stamps. this help me out alot, this is what its there for, your taxes that you pay every time you go to the store and your income taxes you pay, is for thing like this when it happens. So go and get some help, its only temporary, don't feel bad when bad things happen.

What about disability? It's not much but it's something. Also if you call the utilitiy company they may defer payments for you.
