I am 25, married and middle class. My wife and I have always been really careful with our money.

We have no loans other than our house and one of our cars, and both of the loans will be paid off in 1 year.

I have no credit card debit and I don’t buy things (other than my house and car) unless I HAVE the money in the bank.

A friend of mine bought a huge house, has a house loan and two equity lines of credit, two car payments and tons of credit card debt.

He has about $600,000 in debt for everything with a middle class salary and a stay at home wife.

He told me he won’t be out of debt until he is at least 60 and lives pay check to pay check.

Everyone I know has SUVs, big houses, and vacations that they can’t afford and can’t pay off.

Why do Americans have so many high purchases when they can’t afford them?

What happened to buying what you could afford, or a smaller house or car?

Why is everyone in competition with having the most stuff?

I'm looking at switching banks and am questioning getting a standard checking account or an electronic backing e53 account with Fifth Third Bank. I've read the info online and I still have questions.

Do you have an e53 checking account?
How does it work?
Any complaints?
Can you still use paper checks as deposits?
Are there hidden fees?

Help.. please!

If my employer offers 403b, but doesn't match anything I put in, should I still contribute, or am I better off just doing a Roth IRA on my own?

2006-09-20 02:03:44 · 8 answers · asked by Matt C 1

I'm 26 and currently put away 20% of my income into a 401k, plus I max out a Roth IRA every year. Sometimes I feel like even that much isn't enough, but other people tell me I'm overdoing it and should enjoy my money more NOW. What percentage is the "right" percentage to have both a comfortable lifestyle and be confident I won't be eating catfood when I'm 85?

HEY! UM...I BANK WITH REGIONS AND YESTERDAY, I NOTICED THAT MY ACOUNT BALANCE WAS NOT COVERING SOME OF MY PENDING DEBITS. I QUICKLY WENT TO THE BANK AND DEPOSITED CASH TO COVER MY TRANSACTIONS.I THOUGHT THAT SINCE THEY HAD NOT POSTED, THAT I WAS COVERED.

I BANKED WITH BANK OF AMERICA BEFORE THIS AND WITH THEM, EVEN IF YOU WENT NEGATIVE, AS LONG AS YOUR DEBITS WERE STILL PENDING THEY WOULD NOT CHARGE YOU ANY FEES. IF I MADE A DEPOSIT, IT WOULD PROCESS IT BEFORE MY DEBITS. SO WHEN MY PENDING TRANSACTIONS POSTED, I WOULD BE IN THE CLEAR.

WELL, MY TRANSACTIONS POSTED AND 6 DEBITS HIT BEFORE MY DEPOSIT WAS PROCESSED AND I NOW HAVE 200 DOLLARS IN OVERDRAFT FEES.

ANY TIPS ON HOW TO WORK WITH A CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE TO GET THESE FEES REMOVED?

ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL HELP....THANK YOU SO MUCH!

This question may sound very stupid. But actually I am doing a research on loans. The questions for which i am finding answers are : -

1. What is meant by a loan your point of view.
2. Why take a loan.
3. What makes you think about a loan.
4. Whats the emotional process going while taking a loan. (fear of repayment etc.. Reason can be anything)
5. What aspects you look when you apply for loan? (interest rate, bank, people handling your application etc......)

It will be great if you guys can give some clues.

When the company I worked for closed operations, we used our credit cards (carefully and all out of necessity) to supplement our lost income. Despite help from family, we still incurred over $30,000 in credit card debt. I also have student loans that I have to pay back ($35,000). We have fallen behind on all our credit card payments (some are already in collections) because our combined income is not enough to make ends meet. The very little income that we currently make is barely enough to pay our rent, utilities, and the expenses to care for our three children. We recently consulted with a bankruptcy lawyer and he advised that we file for bankruptcy. In his exact words - Companies don't care. You're just another number. They just want to settle any amount you can afford. Even if your situation gets better and you were able to repay your debts, it would take years and the bad credit score would still be on our record for the next 7 years.

We really don't want to file! Need advice.

Are they more evil than your average run of the mill bank? Are they quicker to take advantage of their customers than any other bank in America? Do they make "America" seem like a pejorative?

Ok so I just some items on a forum and the guy who wanted to buy it said he would prefer paypal... So I was like alrite sure so I go and create a paypal account and I guess that's it. He sends me the money ($20). So earlier today I tried to buy some stuff online and decided to pay with the money from my paypal... so everything goes fine until they say I have exceeded the sending limit. Yes, i'm unverified and no I don't have a bank account or credit card (16 here). What's the sending limit? I tried to buy a shirt for $19 shipped but since i'm "unverified" i can't pay? Is there any way I can get the money out of there?

I'm 4 months late on my mortgage. Does anyone know of any companies that will help you get caught up without trying to take your property. I know my credit score has dropped, so that will be a problem. Without getting into details, its just been tough lately
