You should be able to keep a home and a car if you file bankruptcy. You need to talk to a lawyer. Good luck.

To prove panic anxiety disorder as a perm. disability may be a challenge. As far as bankruptcies go, the laws changed in I believe, November of last year. They are much more stringent than before. The state you are in has absolutely nothing to do with bankruptcy, as it is Federal. I know you will see this alot on here, but contact a Bankruptcy Attorney, that specializes in nothing BUT bankruptcy. Usually, first consult is free. They will give you soooo many options it is unreal. Bankruptcy is NOT what it use to be, do NOT beat yourself up over it. 87% of the people in the US have filed more than once. Hence the law change. You WILL feel much better after talking to the attorney. Good luck to you.

This is not something that can be resolved on Y! Answers.
This much is clear: the property that you may keep if you file bankruptcy is established by a combination of federal bankruptcy law and state law. It's set out on this Web page: http://www.virginia-bankruptcy.com/exemptions.html
(equity of $5,000 in a homestead and $2,000 in a car, plus some other allowances, plus accrued federal retirement benefits, SSDI).
You really need to speak to someone expert in Virginia disability benefits law, perhaps through a local charity.

The very best thing you can do is call an attorney. He or she will answer any questions that you may have. If you file Chapt 13 they will combine bills and make them into a payment you can afford (hopefully) and you can keep your stuff. With a Chapt 7, you can opt to keep your home but, you still have to make your monthly payments. You will not get to keep anything free and clear without paying for it. That is a myth that a lot of people believe but, TRUST ME, it is not true. Just call someone soon.

You can't lose your home or only car through filing a bankruptcy.
Go out, mow lawns, pull weeds, do odd jobs. Make up a flyer that says this and pass them out. Don't plead. Wear nice cloths. Smile. Go to Church.
Don't make up excuses why you do stupid things! Find out where there are free meals served and eat there...
Be good and good luck...

I don't know about Virginia, but here in Missouri, you have to spend ALL but $2,000 of ALL assets; ON MEDICAL BILLS, before you can get any assistance.
I've been disabled since 1993...have lost everything.....WELCOME to the world of the very poor. :-|
