My manager didn't work his way up through the company to become a manager. He was hired directly into a manager position. Maybe he worked his way up somewhere else. I don't care. He still has no experience with MY job.

When someone who has never done my job is telling me how to do my job, the result is a bad job.

I recently started temping and as a result of having a 40 hour week I haven't had time to make any graduate applications or do anything else for that matter. The other day I popped into the career centre to pick up some directories for graduate applications and I was shocked to discover that many application deadlines for the graduate applications have already passed. These are mainly for the top MNCs such as UBS and Morgan Stanley as well as Citigroup. I have always dreamed of working for them but now I will have to wait a whole year for the graduate applications to open again.

I am feeling upset, angry and frustrated. Any advice on how I can move forward or deal with this problem???

I'm a struggling writer, and as much as I want to pursue my career, I get all these discouraging feedback that most writer's and authors end up being bankrupt or penniless. But I think that would also depend on how good your work is...
what do you think?

I work at a retail store, I like most everyone I work with but out of about 20 employees, there are about 5 that always act like I am the biggest idiot on the face of the earth and that they are so much better than me. I know they talk about me behind my back and they degrade my intelligence in front of customers and employess alike. Unfortunetly I already have anxiety problems that I am trying to overcome so, this really upsets me personally as well as at work. It also makes me physically ill. The problem is I don't want to leave the other 15, really cool, good people in a lurch because I quit right when things are getting busy for Christmas. I don't want anyone to hate me for leaving but I also don't want to sell my pride for 6.25 an hour. This is what I am thinking of, go ahead and put in my two weeks notice and hope that everyone that I care about at my job, doesn't hate me. I would apprectiate advise from anyone who knows how much retail stinks!

I work for a factory. We have a supervisor who is being a jerk. Even though we are producing more then the required amount of material, he will tell us we are going to slow. He always picks one person and cuts them down all day. We have had people who have been with the company over 30 years move departments to get away. It's to the point where most of the new people are quitting. We have talked many times to the manager, but nothing changes. I've only been with the company about 2 years, and already the senior on that side of the plant. He hasn't really picked on me, but I've seen him git out of line with others. And the manager wonders why we have such a bad turn over racieo.

Is there anything else we could try?

After three interviews (for a hostess) that lasted about 7 weeks at PF Changs I didn't get hire. At the last interview she said she would call me as soon as she reached a decision. I called her today and basically told me I'm not hired. I just feel uplike they shouldv'e been professional enough to let me know. Why didn't they hire me?! I'm just somewhat frustrated!

My company is choosing to close the company the day after Thanksgiving. They are telling the employees that we either have to use a vacation day, come in on a Saturday for 8 hours or not to get paid. Is that legal? Some employees either do not have any vacation time or have a weekend job. Whatever the reason, I believe that is wrong. Not my choice not to work on the Friday.

I had my 3rd interview with the District Manager today for the Manager in Training Position at Abercrombie and Fitch. I was wondering if that pretty much tells me that I got the job? My first interview was with the girl I would be replacing(if I got the job), the second was with two store managers, and the 3rd(today) was with the district manager. It's been a month of waiting and interviewing and I just wish they could just tell me I'm hired or not. Has anyone else been in this situation? I wont find out for another week and a half so maybe if anyone else has been through this process, let me know! Thanks!

I was hired into a company 2 months ago. I was talking to a girl who is a friend and does the exact same job as me, she started telling me that she needed a raise...she said that she believed other people make more then her even though she has been with the company for over 5 years (the industry has high turn around and only our managers have been with the company longer). She then proceeded to tell me how much she made, I was really surprised because she makes 3/4 of what I was hired in at.

I'm not going to tell her I make that much more then her, but how do I encourage her to ask for a raise. She does a great job and deserves a pay raise, but she thinks she can only ask for a small amount when I think she can ask for a lot more...but I can't really tell her that without at least hinting that I make so much more then her.

And of course I signed a nondisclosure agreement so legally I can't tell her how much I make...so what would you do?

This is driving me insane! Sorry... this is a long one.
I already have a job, but through one of the "higher ups" I wastold that it wouldn't be a bad idea to search out a new position elsewhere as there are going to be some lay offs around Christmas.
Being pro- active, I sent out dozens of resumes but was interested in one job in particular.
I was invited in for an interview...
Well, at first the lady wasn't sure what time, so she said she'd call me at 5pm. No such call!
The next morning I see I had receieved an e-mail at 2am asking me to come in at 1pm that day.
I had to lie to my current employer to come to the interview which went really well.
I was basically offered the job but was told that they would call my references and have me come back in for an audition before Friday (this was on Wednesday).

I've been working at a certain television network for 6 months now (first job out of college) in their sales department. Everyone is always telling me how great my performance is and my boss's clients are always telling him how much they love working with me. I do extra work in addition to what others in my position do. The only problem is that I don't make anywhere near what the average salary for my position in my city is (I checked salary.com), and it's so bad that I have to work a second job 20 hours a week to pay my student loans and other expenses. I'm just sick and tired of it and I want to ask for a raise, but I'm afraid that with the writers strikes now would be a bad time. Should I ask for the raise that I know I deserve, or should I wait for conditions for the company to improve? Or should I just give my two weeks notice and go to an industry that can fairly compensate me for my hard work?

Do bosses try to make people feel bad about themselves so that those people will feel that they would not be of any value anywhere else? Or are they just on power trips?

y called a probationary period. Both just said the position was not working out. I went in and turned both places around for the better and was told every day that I was doing an outstanding job. Up until I was supposed to be permanent I get "let go. I don't understand this. I thought that employers basically drooled over veterans. What type of job would have security that Im used to and the pay that Im used to? What are some reasons that employers might do this? Do other veterans have the same problems?
