I work at a retail store, I like most everyone I work with but out of about 20 employees, there are about 5 that always act like I am the biggest idiot on the face of the earth and that they are so much better than me. I know they talk about me behind my back and they degrade my intelligence in front of customers and employess alike. Unfortunetly I already have anxiety problems that I am trying to overcome so, this really upsets me personally as well as at work. It also makes me physically ill. The problem is I don't want to leave the other 15, really cool, good people in a lurch because I quit right when things are getting busy for Christmas. I don't want anyone to hate me for leaving but I also don't want to sell my pride for 6.25 an hour. This is what I am thinking of, go ahead and put in my two weeks notice and hope that everyone that I care about at my job, doesn't hate me. I would apprectiate advise from anyone who knows how much retail stinks!

retail stinks! I can't stand it! Especially around christmas... do they make you wear stupid santa hats? how about the incessant christmas carols playing on a looped CD? and everyone is so grumpy cos no one actually likes christmas.

I have had a similar experience to you - my supervisor decided that i was useless and stupid (no matter how hard I tried really hard to be friendly and helpful). I am just about to quit, but I don't have to worry about the chrismas rush for this particular store. I also have confidence issues and I definitely understand feeling physically ill because of it!

Remember that you are the only person who's opinion of yourself matters. If you do what you think is best then you'll have a clear conscience. Maybe they will be able to easily find extra staff to replace you. Also think about whether you want to use this job as a reference for your next one, if so, it probably won't make a good impression for you to leave before xmas. If you feel like you're letting the team down, you might want to explain that to the boss when you give your notice - that you don't think you can cope with the bullying any longer. That way something may get done! Bosses don't like staff that scare away others, but they might not take to much notice of your complaints if they personally like the bullies.

Best of luck!

Christmas Retail Jobs

Well, its time you judged payoffs vs cost. It's too bad when people at work are so immature when it comes to relationships with co workers, but there are those people in every job.

If you need the money, you need the money. We all have bills to pay, and we all have to struggle at times to make it day to day. However, if you are not strapped for cash, I would say the priority is your health.

If you are becoming ill due to working, I would either see a doctor about the problem to see if it can be fixed, or put in a two week notice. The stress can lead to a multitude of physiological problems such as high blood pressure. Stress can also take a psychological toll on you such as depression or anxiety attacks.

If it is a serious enough problem - and only you know if it is - quit. There are plenty of other worthwhile 6.25 an hr jobs out there that might be more suitable for your personality. Just realize that leaving might cost you in rehireability in the future, so be very tactful in your 2 week notice.

I wouldn't mention the fact that you are having problems with co workers and wouldn't write it with a negative connotation. Be respectful and i'm sure you'll be fine.

Retail does stink. Find another job first. Leave retail and work in an environment where you are not surrounded by people embittered that they work in a stinky industry. If the other 15 people are decent you will be able to retain some friendship with them after you leave. You are evidently articulate and intelligent with a high moral center. Place yourself in an environment where these attributes are valued. Separately continue to work on your self-esteem, remember the following. The others can only judge you if you pass them the power to do so. They are not the arbiters of intelligence, what is funny, style or good grace. You decide what is right for you and live for yourself, your friends and your family. The people that do not understand the value you uniquely bring are losing out, not you. They will enjoy the company of others, let them.

Well first think why they are doing it, if u r giving any reason for that then think about it. Go to your manager and talk to him, besides u said there are 15 other normal so only 5 idiots, talk to those 15 normal to stand on your site against those 5 idiots. If they like u they will help u with this problem. Maybe it's time to learn kung fu?

While your concern for fellow employees is commendable, you do not owe it to anyone to stay in a work environment you hate. Give your notice and get another job. It's up to your manager/supervisor to deal with all of this.

Have you talked to the manager about the harassment? If yes then go over him to the next higher up.
