Should you choose a career, just because you can get it? Is anyone working in a career that when they were younger they thought they would never work on that career? if so, are you happy?

I work at a call center only get 8 bucks an hour im going to school soon (college) and I need a job with this kind of flexibility, if not untill the end of the year for christmas and my moms birthday next year. the problem is We have do certain things and im getting docked for the most ridiculous things(beleive me when i say ridiculous)and I feel treated unfairly because its the same person each time docking me. when we have more people doing the same thing. Problem is I dont know what else to do. This is my first office job and i like it. I just hate the pressure when really we get paid below average pay for a NHD agent. I really am tired and stressed but I need money to go to school i had my job planed out now they threaten us more and more me as well because ive been here longer. i dont know what else to do. (only a certain amount of people get docked for certain things) even my coworkers supervisors think its ridiculous about some of us.

Not too long ago, I had a boss dismiss me by having his underling tell me that he was letting me go. Not only that, but I just got an email from someone who told me that when she was recently fired from her job, her boss had his boss break the news to her over the phone instead of in person. When she emailed her boss to demand an explanation for his behavior, he just responded by sending her an email thanking her for working for him. What's up with that? Do these bosses just not have the cojones to fire people to their faces?

...you know a current member of staff ?

My friend has had a job for two weeks now and the shop is hiring again for casual staff....

I went in to hand in an application form today approached the manager and asked "Are there currently any casual staff vacancies?"

and the manager said "Do you know him ?" (pointing at my friend)

I said "Yes" ???

she then said "Sorry, we do not accept applications from friends of staff members"

.... Is this legal to refuse to accept a application for employment due to this ?

I just got done with my 2nd interview and they said theyre going to call me back soon to offer me a position and what not- at first I really wanted to work in cosmetics, then they said they might have an opening in fragrance, but then I was considering womens handbags and accessories. I can't choose mainly because I don't know which departments pay more (commision or non-commisioned) and which department I'd get more hours in. If you have worked at a Macy's, currently work there, or know someone that works there, HELP ME OUT! Thnx!!

I hate my job. I have been here over 3 years. I've only gotten one raise. I have a lousy cubicle. I get yelled at by angry people all day on the phones (I work at an in-bound, not OUT-bound call center). I have been on 3 different job interviews but nothing has panned out. I'm really getting discouraged and depressed. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

One was for 30.00 the other was for 60.00

it was his moms account which he is not on.

I forgot to charge him and forget to take his thumb-print. I did get his ID, and he had his Moms ID as well, which I wrote down, he also gave his phone number on back of the checks, which we checked out and it is his phone number.

He cashed the checks at 2 seperate times, he also made a deposit for his mom.

This signature seemed alright, and the checks were made payable to him. Could this have been fraud, or am I just being jumpy and paranoid.

There were no supervisors around to advise I think if he were up to no good, he would not have returned to cash a check the second time. and I think that he would have tried to get more out of the account instead of 90.00.

I stoped college after four years and a ton of debt, I wanted to find a job and work some of the debt down before i continue on.. and hopefully find a job that will help with the tuition fees. Any one think I can find a decent paying job with this amount of college and NO degree. i went to college for two years general ed, and could have an associates degree if applied for it, and i have one year tied up with business management and human services and another year in psychology. any ideas if you saw this on a resume would you hire me or should i start my own business and make ends meat that way ?

So men make more money simply because there are more aggressive in negotiating salaries, while women are simply not making much effort for more money and will simply accept whatever comes their way? What do you think of this?

Maybe its me, but I dont get it. Why do these Hiring Managers make you jump through hoops of fire just to get hired? I mean its ridiculous. The jobs I applied for, they train you on the job. So why does expierence and work history matter? By the way this is retail im talking about, not anything where a degree is required. Now I realize they have a lot of applications, but really, does it take 2 months in a half to hire somebody?. Even if its not me. I mean just to hire somebody?. Meanwhile, you have people who can barely speak english doing customer service jobs. When you call a business for a question about a product, sometimes you will get somebody on the phone who you can barely understand. I know the managers cant discriminate against them, but come on, that job really should be for people who speak clear english so their questions can be answered without you having to keep saying-can you repeat that? I cant understand you?.

I am going to begin working tormoww morning from4 to 8 am as a stocker. Anyone worked as a stocker from that time and on? What are the ups and downs? The people all seem very freindly so far. I chose that time or that post because I take care of my kids during the day and I have not enough money for day care so night or early morning would be best for me. If there were only a post that was at least 5 or 6 am till about 12 noon would have been great. I have worked as security from late nights to early morning and it was just too to boring, though I would read most the time.

I work in retail.. I'm 22, married, and my husband works about 45-55 hours a week. We could live on his salary alone, but we're trying to pay off a few things and have some decent savings before we have kids. I've only been at this job 4½ months, and I've already taken quite a few sick days. The boss has said that since it's still early if it keeps happening they might let me go, which I totally understand. I don't hate the job overall, but there are days I hate it depending on what I'm doing. I filled out a form to change my availability, and they keep scheduling me on the days and times I said I couldn't. I'm also scheduled more than I want to be. On my application I said I wanted to work 20-30 hours, and I keep having 40 hour weeks w/o full-time benefits. I'm considering going back to selling Avon, which would give me more flexibility, but less money, at least at first. As far as passions, I want to be a mom 1st, dietitian (maybe) later. Opinions?

I am job searching for no other reason than I cannot stand my boss. He is rude, disgusting, and disrespectful and I have had it. I would like to know a good line to use when the interviewer asks why I am leaving my current position. It's not the money, the job, the advancement opportunities, the skills, nothing that would fall under the standard lines I've found so far.

I need something unique and believable that won't be probed further and won't even give a hint that I have to get away from him as soon as possible before it just spills out that I cannot stand him.

This is a professional white collar position in the field of higher education, where everybody knows everybody and you have to be extraordinarily careful.
