Actually its good to write down emotions in a pleasant way ( even though you didn't enjoy the work there) and tell them you are going back to school again because of family commitments and do the things in a smooth way

I wouldn't write a letter to an employer, because they might decide to use it against you. Instead I'd tell them that you plan to go back to school, nothing else.
