Not too long ago, I had a boss dismiss me by having his underling tell me that he was letting me go. Not only that, but I just got an email from someone who told me that when she was recently fired from her job, her boss had his boss break the news to her over the phone instead of in person. When she emailed her boss to demand an explanation for his behavior, he just responded by sending her an email thanking her for working for him. What's up with that? Do these bosses just not have the cojones to fire people to their faces?

They are not in the right position if they cant fire someone face to face. They have no back-bone.

They want to have the athority to hire and tell employees what to do,but when it comes to firing them, they can't look that person in the face, knowing that the person has bills to pay,and a family to take care of. Deep down inside,I think the employer is ashamed to do it. That's why they get some else to do it. Some employers even have the nerve,to deny you unemployment benefits.

Cowardice, or a lack of ability required to deal with potential confrontation. As a manager I have had to let people go and while I never find the experience pleasant I always try treat these people with the same level of compassion and respect with which I would want to be treated under similar circumstances.

Pretty much - it's harder than you might think to tell someone in person that they are fired. But sometimes it's something that has to be done, and the boss needs to face up to that.

You're right, they don't have any cojones. These are the type of people who should be making minimum wage.

To answer your question, No they don;'t

And sometimes it is company policy that a certain one or two people in your unit is the one fires somebody.

WHat you have described in your question actually does not surprise me at all.
