Yesterday I was given a job offer of $52,351 (random I know). Today I called them back after doing some research and said the average for my degree is $56,000-$58,000, and asked if there was any flexibility in the offer to come closer to this salary. The woman in HR said she would check and get back to me.

Now my dad is saying that they are probably checking to see if they can get the #2 or #3 candidate for cheaper than this- can they do that? Don't I have to formally decline first? If they came back and said that no, they cannot adjust the salary, I would accept it, I figured there was no harm in asking. But now I'm freaking out that they may retract the offer and offer it to someone else.

i got my first interview on a Friday and was told there were 4 candidates. 6 days later i got a call for a 2nd interview.
After a few days of the 2nd interview, HR called telling me that I am one of the finalist and required me to sign a background check form and will get back to me by tonight with the decision.
However, there is no mention of salary? Are they playing mind games?

I recently graduated college and am now sending out my application to companies.

When I was 14 years old, I was caught stealing and was charged with a misdemeanor and had to do community service and such.

I've always put under my applications that I have never gotten a felony/misdemeanor. I heard that criminal records like misdemeanors will get erased once you turn 18. I was wondering if companies do a background check, will they find out what I did when I was still a kid?

I have been at this job about three months and recently some other employees who have been here longer decided to voice some concerns to the CEO. It's a small office of about nine people. Apparently, the CEO's attitude is that if we don't like the way things are, he will just fire all of us and hire new employees.

It's a start-up company that I could tell in my first month is probably going nowhere. I am actually planning on leaving this job at the end of September to be a stay at home mom.

I am just wondering what is a good strategy for me to be able to stay here for the next four and a half months? Just keep my mouth shut and do my work? I am also assuming that I should not give them any more than two weeks notice, in case they just ask me to leave.

Want to do some sort of data entry, customer service support, collections.

Sites that I have been to ask for either a start up fee, or a monthly fee, or a fee to get a list of jobs available. Tired of quick cash scemes. Just want honest work with honest pay.

I was always told that you should NEVER have to pay to get info or to work at home. I cannot find anything yet.

I live in NC but heard somewhere that I could do work from my home for a company that is across the country.

This is just a suplement income. Fun money if you know what I mean. Hubby is main sorce of income.

I worked at a nursing home. I would like to know if it is possible to be able to clean be able to clean 50 rooms that have 1 to 2 beds (some are vent rooms), 25 bathrooms,3 large dining rooms (1 one of those is done twice a day), 2 employee bathrooms, 2 big shower rooms, 3 offices, 2 nurse stations,2 long hallways. In each room, you are expected to dust everything (everyday), sweep and mop the floor, empty the trash. Clean and scrub the toilets, sinks, fill the paper towel and soap dispencer. This is all done daily and in 8 hours and this is for one person. Some rooms have the patience in them and some don't. You have to work around the nurses as well. Can't clean the rooms if they are in their room eating, have to wait. Can any body do all this in one 8 hour day? I was just wondering as this is what my boss wants us to do. I did half this for about 3 or 4 weeks and quit.My boss says that it can be done, but I can't see it happening and being done right on top of that. Can it be done?

to make a long story a little shorter. i've worked at a company for 2+ years and the "new girl" has been there 7 months. from the first she has been shown favoritism that i cannot figure out ..but she is lazy and tells the bosses what to do and what she will and will not do..and they accept it!
anyhow, today an issue came up where she called our personel manager about her 6 mo. raise (she hadn't received it yet) and was told that it was an oversight but not to mention it to any of us coworkers (i have no idea why)?
but she turned around and told us anyway! i couldn't have cared less except that someone mentioned a $25/week raise at 6 months - and i had never received that!
i said i want to call the personel manager too and everyone "jumped" on me because it would get "poor" miss princess in trouble for telling us what she swore not to do.
now i'm afraid i might get written up for insubordination .yet should i have to accept making less money when i work ten times as hard ?

A friend of mine is 33 and doesn't have a BA. He has to work because he needs to pay child support, so part time work is out of the question in order to receive a BA. My question essentially is can someone with 13+ work experience get a decent job at a company where he can grow, or is a BA necessary?

I work for a small advertising agency that was started and is owned by two women. Recently one of the women quit and the second contemplated shutting down completely. She has assured me that the company won't close down and I still have a job but I can't help but to be worried. Should I look for another job just in case?

If you are an exempt employee and you work on a Sunday, are you required to work Monday-Friday also, or are you entitled to take a weekday off with pay? I'm not getting extra pay for working on the weekend, so I would think that I could work 5 days that week, being Sunday- Thursday and receive my normal pay. Is this true?
