i got my first interview on a Friday and was told there were 4 candidates. 6 days later i got a call for a 2nd interview.
After a few days of the 2nd interview, HR called telling me that I am one of the finalist and required me to sign a background check form and will get back to me by tonight with the decision.
However, there is no mention of salary? Are they playing mind games?

Usually salary is not mentioned until a job offer is made, meaning you are the top candidate. Sometimes a range is given in the job description to give you an idea, but not always. It is up to you to figure out what your degree and experience are worth, along with the average salary of the field you are applying for, so that you know if the offer, when it is made, is reasonable. I recommend going to salary.com to get an idea of what you are worth. Don't bring up salary before they do, and if they ask you what you are expecting, try to avoid saying a number- it is always to your best negotiating advantage to have them say a number first. If they flat out ask you what you are expecting, give them a response such as "well, what is the range for this position?" Good luck!

Yes, they are playing mind games. This is standard HR crap to lowball you. If it were an ethical company, at least a salary range should have been brought up during the 1st or 2nd interview.

Otherwise they are wasting your valuable work search time.

ps: Notice how the two men here (me and the guy after me) know how the game is played. The response of the women is typical. Then, women continue to complain why they are still paid lower in the workplace. Whose fault is that?

Mind games. Ask them for the salary range of the position. They will flatly say it depends on the candidate. Be ready to negotiate.

I don't think so- they are still in the selection process. Once they are prepared to offer the position to some lucky person, they'll offer the "employment package" which would include salary, vacation time, benefits, etc..... Best of luck!

They usually don't ask you until everything goes well and they offer you the job. Then that's when its up to you if you want to accept it or not. They will mention it to you eventually.

Nope that would probably be their next step. Sit tight, it will all work out.
