It has come to my attention that, at least, one grocery store plays a little game involving the question title. It really is simple in explanation. The clock up front is three minutes faster than the clock you punch your timecard on. The rules state that you are not allowed to punch in more than four minutes early for your shift. As a side note, there is only one punch-clock and it takes, supposedly, about a minute to walk from the front to it. They never seem to change this time difference no matter how many employees bring this to their attention. Is there a name for this tactic/game?

I am 14 and called several places to get a summer job and haven't found one yet. No businesses that I know of hires 14 year olds. I was thinking about babysitting or cleaning houses but my dad said that they are strangers and I shouldn't. I would ask my family but their houses are clean, and if I did babysit for them I wouldn't get that much money because it wouldn't be a daily thing. I was also thinking about walking dogs or something like that because I love animals and my parents would let me do that, but I wouldn't know how to ask peope, and I don't know if anyone even needs their dogs walked. I DON'T want to be a delivery person, a life gaurd, do that thing where you make money on the computer, or anything like that though. I REALLY want a summer job so that I can make money. And I want to make a good pay for a job. Can someone PLEASE help me??? I don't know what to do???

I'm wondering whether or not I should get a second job over the summer because I make about $200 a month and I'd like to make more money to pay for gas since gas is expensive. I start college in the fall and this summer all my friends are going away. I'd like to take the opportunity to spend some time with my friends before they all ship off to college. I will not be able to see them until next summer. I don't want to regret anything when I start school.

However, this one temp agency is interested in making me a part of their team. I'm not sure what the hours would be like though.

What do you think I should do?

I've never made up a resume before, so I want to know if I can put my friend of 14 years on there. Can she vouch for my character, or does it have to be someone for whom I've volunteered, or a teacher or something?

Also, how many contacts do I need?

I'm a college graduate with tons of experience, but for personal reasons, I need to work from home now. I've searched the net and there is just way too much junk out there and impossible to sort through whats actually spam or not. I am asking this for people who are already working at home (clerical, customer service, data entry, adminstration, etc) in a REAL job. This means that its a legit company and you didn't have to put any money into it. It would also be great if they offered benefits (like insurance, 401K, etc.). If any of you can share your at home job info with me, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OK, I would absolutely love to write for a fashion or a women's magazine one day. Journalism has always interested me. However, some people say "haha don't be stupid, that won't happen!"
I think they are right to be honest. This industry is based in London and I live nowhere near. Even when I leave uni, how on earth am I going to move there? Doesn't it cost a bomb? I mean, I already write for my college newsletter and getting my portfolio together but...I'm stuck. When I say I want to live in London, people always say "OMG why?". Is my dream too big? I'm scared I'll fail. It's all I have ever wanted to do. Please help. Be honest. :)

Today at work another store in the district called and wanted me to come work her shift at her store because she was sick. She had called everyone else at her store, and nobody could do it. I didn't want to work a 12+ hour shift. I told her no, she then got mad, said a few comments and hung up the phone on me.
When I got off the phone, my manager said in one of those phony *** voices, "What did you say to her?" Obviously, the lady at the other store, had asked her first and she refused. I told my manager, no I didn't want to work a 12+ hour shift. My manager then turned the the second in charge manger (the shift leader) and said, "You know we should start writing these KIDS up for not wanting to work."
Huh? First of all, can you do that? I don't think so. My manager seems to think I'm an idiot, and that I don't know the law.
Ok, so the question is, "Can you get written up at work for not wanting to work at another store?" Give me proof, so I can mail it out, and e-mail HER manager.
