If you are interested in becoming an Acctuary, then a math major is the best choice. Acctuaries make a lot of money, but requires extensive knowledge in all aspects of math. If you are planning on double majoring in Math and Economics, then you will have no problem finding a job in a professional business setting.

Just remember one thing, no one really follows what they have majored in in college. I am currently working and going to college at the same time and a lot of the employees at my job do not even have degrees in the career they currently have. For example, I know someone with a Law degree who is working in Client Services, and another with a History degree who is now working in the Billings Department.

If you are worried that you will not find a good job after college, you should start gaining work experience now. You can try working on campus as a receptionist or working in an office. You should even try applying for internships, now that you are entering college. This will really help you in the future.

Good luck!

Yes. Worked for Verizon Wireless. Guess what the man had a math major and was a statistican for the customer service department. He took all the results of customer car and projected into how the company was performing in the market and against the competition.
He was very interesting when he would talk to the cs staff.

Many companies love math and math geeks. From internet companies such as Google and Yahoo to consulting companies such as IBM, math geeks are ruling the roost

Here's an article on how CRITICAL math geeks are to a big company such as IBM
http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/112/features-shesgottheirnumber.html

From the article, you can see how the importance of math folks have risen in companies such as IBM

"Dietrich's 160 researchers are, in fact, increasingly among the most valuable problem solvers at IBM. "Historically, the stars here have been the physicists who made the technology that went into chips and systems, and then it was the computer scientists and engineers," Horn says. "Now we're seeing the emergence of mathematicians. They're embedded everywhere." This is partly due to IBM's shift from hardware to software and services. "

"Today, companies measure nearly every aspect of what they do, and computers are fast enough to crunch the numbers in time for execs to act on the analysis. In the hands of talented mathematicians, data create an invaluable advantage. Elaborate algorithms reveal a company's inefficiencies and opportunities--unseen bottlenecks in the supply chain or customers' hidden buying patterns. Entire companies--think Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) --are being built almost entirely around math. And others, like IBM, are integrating math into operations and decision making in ways never before seen."
