I worked at a nursing home. I would like to know if it is possible to be able to clean be able to clean 50 rooms that have 1 to 2 beds (some are vent rooms), 25 bathrooms,3 large dining rooms (1 one of those is done twice a day), 2 employee bathrooms, 2 big shower rooms, 3 offices, 2 nurse stations,2 long hallways. In each room, you are expected to dust everything (everyday), sweep and mop the floor, empty the trash. Clean and scrub the toilets, sinks, fill the paper towel and soap dispencer. This is all done daily and in 8 hours and this is for one person. Some rooms have the patience in them and some don't. You have to work around the nurses as well. Can't clean the rooms if they are in their room eating, have to wait. Can any body do all this in one 8 hour day? I was just wondering as this is what my boss wants us to do. I did half this for about 3 or 4 weeks and quit.My boss says that it can be done, but I can't see it happening and being done right on top of that. Can it be done?

When I say us, I mean that our boss only wanted one housekeeper a day on the floor unless that housekeeper is training another housekeeper. This is all done every day of the week. And also if the patience is not in the bed, she wanted us to dust and clean the bed as well from top to bottom. Clean the smoke room, clean the employee smoke area. Some other little jobs as well....all this in one day and every day. Make sure the front lobby stays clean all the time. Can any one else do this? Remember this is all done in one 8 hour day, and by 1 person.

I was a housekeeper at a hospital and I was responsible for one unit. Cardiac Care.
I had 20 rooms. Each had one bathroom, nurses lounge, meeting room, hallways, etc. same as you.
In an 8hr day, I did manage to clean all rooms, but cheated. lol
The trick was, most things like soap, towel where done when they got low.
Dusting I did mostly every other day.
Toilets were done everyday.
Showers and tubs, unless they were used, I would skip.
Floors were mopped.
Beds were made daily.
Worked around nurses and patients.
It is a real tough job, and the backbone of hospitals, hotels, retirement homes etc.
If it wasn't for us, the place would look like crap.
You have alot more rooms, so the answer to your question, is you either need more hours, or have another housekeeper.
I got paid over $17hr, so I worked my butt off to complete rooms.

I'm not a cleaning lady, but common sense would tell you that it is impossible for one person to do even half of that and do a decent job. I hate to think how dirty the bathrooms must be!
