The real estate market in Illinois (Chicagoland area) is slow right now, so there is not a big demand for new homes to be built. My boyfriend is a carpenter, he is in the union and does mainly residential work (framing). If he were to be laid off, what are the best areas in the U.S. for carpenters to find work?

I've just started a temp job today (medical secretary) in a most awful dirty, smelly office from the 60's! I like to start and finish my working day early (hence the whole reason I temp) and the first thing I got when I walked in this morning is "You'll have to work shifts, varying between 08.00 to 5pm and then 9-6pm". I said no. Anyway they agreed to my hours and now I've 'GOT' to take my lunch at 12noon. I don't think this is right somehow. I don't think I should be told when to take my lunch when I'm just a temp. What do you reckon?

we have this anoying coworker who dosent do anything all day except jack around. so turns out this guy thinks that he is next in line for the mgmt position which we all laugh about because he is always in the boss's office due to trouble.

anyway so somehow they blew smoke up his behind and told him that he needs to start being a leader and learn more if he wanted to advance, what they were really trying to say is that he needs to step up and work more.

anyway now he goes around bragging and does all these things he wouldnt touch before, he just volunteered to take on a major project that none of us would even think of doing all alone.

we feel bad for him because mgmt used the same strategy on all of us before to get us going and lied to all of us...thinking we were next for the mgmt position.

will he ever get back into reality ? he just turned down 2 other jobs because he thinks he is moving up

I have scattered work experience that spans a few industries.

I am reorganizing my resume (advised by a recruiter) to show the specific dates and responsibilities to match each employer.

In one particular industry I had several employers because they were short term contracts.

I would like to know how I can best organize these employers so it will not appear to be perceived as negative by a potential employer?

Thanks

I've applied for about 7 jobs, and I haven't received not one call yet. My friend told me to ask their managers and introduce myself to them. Hard thing is, is that I rarely see the managers.

So, is there any thing I have to do to get the managers attention so they'll accept me. I mean, I'll work anywhere in my city, since I really need money. I also made it a goal to get a job this month.

I was with the same company for 8 years, division for 5, position for 3, store for 18 months.

Due to an incompetant supervisor, an open workman's comp claim, failure on the part of upper managment to do anything with the supervisor..... I walked off the job today. Keys, timecard, everything left behind. Situation had been unbearable for the past year and a half.

I am looking to get out of the retail industry.... should I put "hostile work environment" or should I say "medically unable to meet positions demands"?

i was hired into this company in early april.. at which time i relocated from across the state.. i was told at that time that once i completed training i would get my full wages and benefits.. 2 months tops! ground training took 3 weeks and ive been waiting for flight training for about a month and a half now.. im not any closer to starting flight training than i was when i completed ground training.. our small company is just to busy to do my flight training at the moment.. i can understand that.. but they have me sitting in the jump seat.. each flight that i go on im suppose to get paid extra.. but since i havent gone through flight training, im not getting those extras even though im going on these trips.. im only making 1,000 dollars a month before taxes right now.. after i pay my rent and all my other bills.. i have 50 bucks left.. what should i do?? ask for the raise early?? ask for the extra trip money?? ask them to pay some of my bills?? does anybody have any suggestions??

Is it required to provide your Social Security number on job applications? I usually put it on there, but if I had the option, I wouldn't.

So here's the thing...Toys R Us hired me on May 29... and today is June 17 and I haven't worked a single day yet. Heck, I haven't even been trained yet. After they do get me trained, it will officially have been a month since they hired me to actually get me on the job. They always say they'll call me and they never do. Once I was helping my bf do some yard work and they called me (the only time they ever did call me) to come in for orientation. I stop what I was doing, drove home (which is 30 minutes away), took a shower and got cleaned up, drove to Toys R Us (which is 10 minutes away), signed papers for 15 minutes, and then went home... So much for "orientation". They say they need me really bad... but they're not doing anything.
Anyway, my old job offered me a good deal yesterday and I decided to take it... I will start working at the end of this week. So I need to quit Toys R Us... but the thing is I haven't even worked there yet and I don't know what I am supposed to do. Help me!

Do I Suck?
Do I suck?
I currently have 85 in taxable income, Have 3 Rental Homes, and 120 in the stock market and 30 in Cash. With all the real estate income its really over 100k in gross taxable income. Of course most goes to cover the debt service Real Estate is valued over 700k. I am only 24? I heard lots of 24 year olds are already making 80k and bigger salaries is this true? Do I suck? Are my assests competive or am I poor? Who else is making more than me?

I'm entering my sophomore year in high school & headed to a private school. The principle wants to know what I want to become so I can start taking special classes to prepare for it (example, I'm going to take a second language but depends what field I want to work in which language will help me the most), and when I reach junior I will be taking pre-college classes which I don't fully understand right now but yeah... I'm not that good at math, I'm better at science, English, and history... I want to make at least 90 thousand a year and I want my job to be secure so I don't have to worry about getting fired. I really want to work with wildlife, like a biologist or something interesting like that because I need a career with minimal paperwork due ADHD, (I cannot sit still, and its pretty hard to concentrate on something that doesn't interest me).
